I don't recall the specifics of the talk or the year, but I do remember driving to the church with my sons to watch what I believe was conference, when Spencer Kimball mentioned that everyone watching the conference at that moment has the potential to not only become like God, but also to receive guidance from their Heavenly Father on how to create worlds for themselves, once they become a God. He expressed his certainty about this truth, citing the vastness of the universe as evidence.
HoH,

I believe you’re thinking about SWK’s 1971 October General Conference talk titled, “Glimpses of Heaven.”

Assuming you were around 35 years old when you “drove your kids” to see this, you would be around 90 years old today.

No, you ugly fibber, it likely occurred between 1975 and 1977, as I recall a car seat being part of the situation for my little boy while driving the church. I recall bringing him into the church and gazing at the satellite dish.

You got the wrong talk.

I'm sorry, Hound, but the topic is God, and not the guild of woke Mormon terraformers. MG is free to admit at any time that he is an atheist as I am, and he speaks only of a powerful local being that "created" him and allows him air to breathe, makes his life here hunky dory, and promises a fantastic eternity of consumption and mediocrity after he dies.
Mormonism fundamentally revolves around the concepts of eternal progression and the aspiration to become terraformers.

There are numerous examples, including the one I just mentioned, that clearly demonstrate that Mormons believe eternal progression is akin to terraforming. The whole belief system or gospel revolves around specific laws and forms of authority that direct individuals on their earthly journey, enabling them to evolve into a terraformer as they advance toward divinity!

You speak as though you have never been a Mormon! I welcome your feedback on any mistakes I may have made. The subject you mention is God. Did I not just articulate the concept of the god of Mormonism?
The notion that humans can become God’s and create their own planets, is something the Church is trying to walk back.
Do Latter-day Saints believe that they will “get their own planet”?

No. This idea is not taught in Latter-day Saint scripture, nor is it a doctrine of the Church. This misunderstanding stems from speculative comments unreflective of scriptural doctrine. Latter-day Saints believe that we are all sons and daughters of God and that all of us have the potential to grow during and after this life to become like our Heavenly Father (see Romans 8:16-17). The Church does not and has never purported to fully understand the specifics of Christ’s statement that “in my Father’s house are many mansions” (John 14:2).
So this is the PR department stating that SWK didn’t know what he was talking about.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Your attempts to argue with me and claim I'm lying about my age only reinforce my point: there isn't a single progressive on this board capable of having a cordial conversation with someone outside your progressive cult.
No, the problem is that you behave like an incorrigible a-hole, so it is unsurprising that people respond to you in unkind ways. That you feel compelled to inject the word "Progressive" into practically every post you write reveals how tedious and boorish you are. I feel unmotivated by your posting style to put much effort into responding to the much speaking with little meaning that you vomit onto this board.

HoH,

That's interesting that you watched this on the satellite dish at the church between 1975 and 1977. The church first began installing satellite dishes in chapels in July of 1981, with an initial network of 500 dishes announced to carry general conference broadcasts to members outside Utah. :o

Given your tendency to stretch the truth, I took the time to locate the talk, and as it turns out, it was from 1975 and titled "The Privilege of Holding the Priesthood". This Priesthood session marked a significant moment in history, as it became one of the earliest to be transmitted via satellite to stake centers and ward buildings worldwide. Once more, demonstrating that the immature progressives on this board are either quite poor at conducting basic research or simply inclined to be dishonest like many progressives.

It's amusing that you spent time researching the information, yet you still got it wrong, while I relied on a 50-year-old memory of a huge baby seat and an enormous satellite dish!

You lost and I won, you ugly fibber!

Now go do some research and educate yourself and comeback to tell everyone you're wrong!

I can't wait to see how you try to weasel your way out of this huge lie you've tangled yourself into.

Please tell us how you watched a 1975 broadcast on satellite television at the church when the church installed its first satellite television in 1981?
April 6, 1980: Celebrating the church's 150th anniversary, President Spencer W. Kimball conducts part of general conference from the newly restored Whitmer Farmhouse in Fayette, N.Y. This marks the first-time the church uses a satellite for conference broadcasts.

Oct. 3, 1981: A network of 500 satellite dishes for stake centers outside Utah is announced to carry conferences to members in the United States and Canada.

Conference Broadcasts https://share.google/vQdQWbQ7Y6qtQx37l

Once more, it seems you are either lacking in understanding or being dishonest, as you cannot accept that you are mistaken. Not just incorrect, but completely mistaken. This link is from the official church website, stating that the first satellite broadcasts of general conference took place on Sunday, April 9, 1967, and were audio only. And here's the amusing part, as it clarifies why I have such a vivid recollection of that day in 1975. The inaugural satellite audio and video broadcast of general conference took place on Friday, October 3, 1975, coinciding perfectly with the day Kimball delivered the talk I have been discussing!

Once more, it signifies that I win and you lose! Admit that you were mistaken, fibber!
