@#$%^$^*$%^*%* OPEN THE BOOKS!

Exactly.

They are so paranoid that they'd rather get blasted for this type of savage behavior than anyone knowing how full the coffers are.

How are they going to guilt that mite out of the widow's hands if they show that the Church owns a million shares of Exxon?

I wonder what has happened since. Does anyone have any current information on these wonderful, generous people that were willing to sacrifice so much for the temple?

Thank you for bumping this Scratch.

The point, I think, is that the ask should never have been made. The church is worth billions, and no similiar sacrifice was asked of the Saints here when we built our mini-temple. Why should the members in Brazil have to take the fillings out of their teeth in order to have a temple? The church should provide one, just as they provide here.

Oh, I understood the point Harmony. I choose to focus on something else... and am humbled that these people felt so strongly for something (whether anyone should have allowed it is another matter) to give so much of what little they had. I actually am humbled.. how I feel about those that would take is another matter entirely. But not a matter I wish to discuss on this board. :)

Harmony,

Does not the church ask for extra donations when a Temple is built in any community? I seem to recall more being asked of us when the Vegas Temple was being built. It was a long time ago, so my memory is foggy, but I do recall some type of chart with an expected goal to reach ala a thermometer type drawing.

If the people felt they needed to pull out their fillings, that was a choice made on their own.

Yes, and it was also the Church's choice to accept them. Should the very wealthy LDS Church have done that? No.

Should the church stop collecting tithing all together and operate on existing interest accrued? I mean, who knows how many impoverished families are being asked to contribute their mites? ( Mark 12:41-44)

Hey Bro, now THAT is enlightenment! Maybe yer destined for Faust's spot. Could do worse... :-) On one of my excursions into Comparitive Congregations, i was amazed to hear the charismatic pastor announce, "...no collection today! We're XX$s in the black. So spend it on your families!" That does set a precedence... Warm regards, Roger

It is stories like this that make one wonder. As stupid as the high up Elder that was on an Island as a missionary when a hurricane hit. He starved until near death before the rescue/supply ship came. He calls it a story of faith while in reality is i a story of stupidity and laziness. The natives on the Island weren't starving and laying about waiting for a ship to come in. They were fishing, digging roots, finding still edible coconuts, killing birds and eating.

Don't these guys sit back and analyze what is being taught with these idiotic stories they are telling?
