Why bother with MAD?

Occasionally I wish I did post---whenever I see some egregiously incorrect statment about science or history from one of the sub-logish posters---but a nanosecond later the impulse has passed.

Honestly, I have no idea why I post over there. It must be a character flaw (one of many).

Heh. I don't think I get much from reading it these days except continuing horror shocks. I've seen the "postmodern" apologetics trick, I've seen the piling up of ever more spurious "evidences" for the Book of Mormon and Book of Abraham, I've seen the continuting knee-jerk ad hominems...I'm not seeing much else.

I also read various mormo-blogs and there I do see something more like "discussion," though they too feature its thier own variety of horror-shocks. One thing the bloggernacle doesn't have, that MAD has in spades, are the overly credulous, ill-read and superstitous. Most days MAD reads to me like a missive issued from a dank medieval village...

That's not the problem. Not only can you "make a difference," but you are capable of making significantly more. The question is where you can do this. My answer would be "the world," rather than any fantasy land.

That's not the problem. Not only can you "make a difference," but you are capable of making significantly more. The question is where you can do this. My answer would be "the world," rather than any fantasy land.

I know there are. For example, writing.

Check out Jlo gmail for a suggestion. That idea came from finishing last night my 10th re-reading of one of those 33 1/3 mini books devoted to single albums. I've only read a few, but two are standouts: Colin Meloy's Let it Be (the Replacements) was the one I was rereading, the Joy Division Unknown Pleasures is also stellar. Whre the JD book is a fascinating look at the making of that album, Meloy takes a different approach and his Replacements book is mini-memoir of his childhood around the time he first heard that album..
