Thanks to DD above, I visited DCP’s blog, and to my continued annoyance he keeps trying to cash in on the Jews’ suffering at the hands of the Nazis. Remember “blundering and ham-fisted”? Example #3,465,079 of Mormon blundering and ham-fistedness.

As an amateur astronomer, I would oppose the temple in Cody, WY (I guess that would make me a Nazi according to DCP). The light pollution from that massive steeple would ruin stargazing for at least 100 square miles.
Is it any wonder the Mormons are one of the most disliked groups in the world?

Funny, I don’t remember DCP citing any data when he declared that Mormons are deeply philosemitic. No data. He also didn’t cite any data about the number of Mormons who felt alienated by Jewish protests of Holocaust baptisms. Again, no data. But I imagine it was as close to zero as one can get.“DCP” wrote: I doubt that Latter-day Saints in Cody or the Church itself are or have been "seeking to alienate many in Cody" -- they simply want to build a small temple -- and I don't know whether "many in Cody" really have been alienated. There's no polling data of which I'm aware to prove or disprove such a notion.
Nor do I know what proportion of Cody's citizenry is "deeply Christian." Again, no data. Nor would it be legitimately relevant to the Cody controversy: No government body and no government official should block the construction of a religious building on the basis of a disagreement with that religion's beliefs. The Constitution and relevant American law are quite clear on that issue.

If I recall correctly DCP was in favour of businesses being able to discriminate against customers who weren’t to the taste of the business owner because of differences in belief. Why shouldn’t the business owners therefore be required to be upfront about their religion/beliefs so that customers may make an informed choice about where to shop? For instance, a gay couple requiring a wedding cake would be saved the stress and embarrassment of trying to order their wedding cake from a cake shop owned by a Mormon.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

DCP is very hypocritical here, as usual.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 4:31 pmIf I recall correctly DCP was in favour of businesses being able to discriminate against customers who weren’t to the taste of the business owner because of differences in belief. I don't advocate vandalism. Just wanted to say that upfront. But, my born and raised Irish Catholic altar boy from the Bronx has weighed in. He said, very calmly, with a straight face, "Maybe the night skies will still be visible, who knows? It's highly likely those 24 hour temple lights might be broken or nonfunctioning. A lot."
And then he went back to reading his book.
And then he went back to reading his book.

The Saints thought the residents of Cody would be such a pushover that they brought in all the construction materials before even asking for a construction permit.

A few commenters on the Facebook page of a group that bills itself as “Preserve Our Cody Neighborhoods” are calling for legal “war” with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and for a list of LDS-owned businesses to be boycotted. (Perhaps such businesses might be required to display, say, a yellow star, so that they will more easily identified?)
Opposition to the temple ostensibly derives from its height, its planned location in a residential area, and the bright lights with which all Latter-day Saint temples are allegedly ablaze throughout the night. Some on the “Preserve Our Cody Neighborhoods” Facebook page have, however pointed to the Mountain Meadows Massacre as representative of the Church, dismissed the Church as non-Christian and therefore not welcome in the God-fearing city of Cody, and pronounced it not a real religion but, rather, a soulless corporation. More recently, though, one “Kevin Jay Clapper” has distinguished himself by pronouncing my faith . . .
