We are going to have a small Smithmas gathering tomorrow evening. We’ll sing a couple of songs, drink hot Wassail and play my favorite LDS trivia game, Celestial Pursuit.

I’ll probably close our little celebration tomorrow by reminding everyone just what a tremendously difficult challenge it was for Joseph to keep all his wives on constant rotation and still manage to keep everything secret from Emma.

On top of that, I’ll remind everyone just how mentally and physically taxing it must have been for Joseph to single handedly bring down the Kirkland Safety Society bank.

I'm glad brother Joseph can finally rest now from his earthly labors. Rest well sweet prince. Rest well.

Merry Smithmas!
And e certainly hope you will join Kish and I in our live session of the celebration.... we will at least be having cake and sharing some accomplishments of Brother Joseph, 2nd only to Jesus Christ in giving salvation to the entire Elohim family of potential gods and goddesses and planet makers.

Great scholarship as usual Tom. That critic has made this observation before and I'd forgotten the details. I note to the Rev. that the natural light of reason can't be copyrighted and may always be cited as the source of the truths of Smithmas, however, I may have missed a citation, if we go by the ways of the world. It's very possible that critic dipped his cup into the light of reason first, with his powerful observation that, "Perhaps, had he not been born so close to the superholiday of Christmas, Joseph Smith’s birthday would have been widely commemorated..."

I take it that he immediately recognized the problem and went into misdirection mode with it. It would be like claiming to have never eaten a Reese's and as proof, showing that the jar of peanut butter and the bars of chocolate are kept on opposite sides of the house, and wow, no chance of those ever meeting!
Social distancing has likely already begun to flatten the curve...Continue to research good antivirals and vaccine candidates. Make everyone wear masks. -- J.D. Vance

Not sure how I feel about this episode. Several thoughts are bouncing around in my head, and I’m going to toss those thoughts out here.

Sort of reminds me of when I was at a counter cult conference and two of the presenters, during a downtime between presentations, had their heads together in a laptop computer, laughing, while watching the Simpson’s Church of Scientology video, all the while Cathy Norman, Director of Special Affairs Church of Scientology was present. I’m not sure if she was paying any attention to it.

I can say that if this were a Coffee with Sandra episode, I’d probably say something to Sandra.
"Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy” Jude 1:24
“the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 ESV

Msnobody, this subject is foreign to me. I have imagined it is a lark made up by folks on this message board. An odd one at least to my mind.

Would love to know your honest opinion, msnobody. That does sound eerily similar in a very general way, but I think in this case all of us were relatively engaged with the proceedings, unlike Cathy Norman. Are you thinking that Don was just on a different wavelength from the rest of us? Message me if you don't feel like getting into it here on the thread.

It is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek name given to the very real phenomenon of Mormons celebrating the birth of Joseph Smith.

I have no memory whatsoever of such celebrations. Perhaps it has gotten lost from my memory. Or possibly Nobody celebrated it where I was living Mormon.

The Church made a pretty big deal out of it last year. Made a video with two GAs in it celebrating Joseph Smith’s birthday. Plenty of Mormons have marked the day privately. Joseph F. Smith publicly advocated for its celebration.

I guess I feel reassured. I am sure something like this could have been lost in my memory banks.

I confess I do not know how to relate to this. I am trying to imagine GA celebrating a birthday. Perhaps a colorful hat and a paper whistle. Ok maybe i should just shut up, I don't know what I am talking about.
