The exact means of creating an obvious fraud must be listed, or else it is all true.

I think ancient books of scripture like the Dao De Jing or Proverbs which were collections of saying and songs chosen deliberately for their wisdom can have more value than simply anthropology. Last I checked nobody committed terrorism based on “Weapons are the tools of fear;Gadianton wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 2:05 pmI don't really understand how the Book of Mormon can be compared to other purported scripture.
As I understand it, most very old scripture is myth and songs passed down for hundreds or thousands of years. The weirdest scripture I read back in the day was the Avestan Gathas. Good luck finding inspiration in that. A modern, educated person doesn't read "scripture" to learn wisdom, that leads to the great counters to democracy, planes crashing into buildings, attacks on capitols and mass deportations. You read the Gathas for the anthropological insights. For the same reasons you'd pluck out tiny bones from chert rock.

I watched the video. Pretty spot on. As literature it's very poor. Theologically it's very simplistic. Narratively it's extremely repetitive. It's just not an impressive book.

My Book of Mormon study has been more or less topically based except for a few times in which I've read if from cover to cover without stopping. I've found over the years that I get much more out of reading the Book of Mormon if I am reading it along with the Bible...cross referencing...or other books/sources (Conference Addresses and other academically aligned articles/essays, etc.).Gadianton wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 1:16 pmI doubt I read any of it on my mission. I did read the entire Old Testament on my mission, what a trip.MG 2.0 wrote:I'm assuming that since then you've read it a few times?
Since then, I read the second half after my mission for the 2nd part of the Book of Mormon class. So I've read it at least once.
I probably read most of it between the ages of 8 and 11, after I got my first fancy set of scriptures as a gift for baptism. I left that part out.
That's all that I recall. How many times have you read it, MG? If you've read it less than 350 times, then you're a hypocrite. It proves you do not believe the Book of Mormon is the greatest thing ever and you've ignored the council of the prophets to read 1/2 hour a day.
If we count from 18 to the time I went inactive, that's 5 years, and I read it once. You've been an active adult for at least 50 years. That means, if you've read it 10 times, you've exactly matched my pace as a spiritual slacker. How many times have you read it, MG?
The point being that for decades I have studied/read the Book of Mormon. I didn't put it on the shelf to gather dust.

MG

Why not just follow the Come Follow Me curriculum which will have you read it cover to cover in a year and study supporting resources as well?MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 6:23 pmMy Book of Mormon study has been more or less topically based except for a few times in which I've read if from cover to cover without stopping. That's not my thing. I do the Come Follow Me curriculum but find that it's not enough for me. I'm a bit more inquisitive.Ego wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 6:40 pmWhy not just follow the Come Follow Me curriculum which will have you read it cover to cover in a year and study supporting resources as well?MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 6:23 pm

I agree with you of course. It’s mere milk compared to the real meat. But some people swear on it by their lives.

It's a good place to start. Remember, the church is a/the church of correlation. To the least and greatest of these, my brethren. Come Follow Me is the curriculum for everyone, from the least to the greatest.
But there is nothing stopping YOU or me in going as far as we want to in our personal studies.

Nothing but the LDS Church black-balling you for looking behind the curtain. Many have done so only to find that they are 'chilled out' of the fellowship. Hyrum Snow was one. Another was a poster here who if I recall correctly was 'Rockslider.'MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 8:32 pmIt's a good place to start. Remember, the church is a/the church of correlation. I'm not even sure what in the heck you mean when you say, "church" in this instance. I have absolutely no experience that would parallel and/or dovetail with your accusation/examples.sock puppet wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 8:36 pmNothing but the LDS Church black-balling you for looking behind the curtain.
