Dr. Shades wrote:Hi there SleepingWillow,

I understand that you were banned from the MA&D boards. Therefore, you qualify for an entry in my "FAIR/MA&D Exiles" weblog.

Would you care to tell me the details behind your banning?

Thanks in advance,

My response:
SleepingWillow wrote:I have not been given any reason for the ban, nor have I contested the ban. If my input is not wanted there, for whatever reason, I am not willing to prostrate myself to the moderators to try to get my privileges reinstated.

My best guess as to my banning is that I stepped on a cow that was just too sacred to talk about (not the temple). A true "investigator" appeared on the boards. She had no trollish qualities and was curious about a couple Church policies ostensibly for the sake of her son. She also seemed to be fairly uninformed about the Church. I shared some of the most damaging, budding-testimony-crushing information I had. Not in an angry way, but in a simple, matter of fact way that I had used successfully on that board for my previous 1,000 posts to contribute without being banned. The next morning I logged on to find I was completely perma-banned. Perhaps they finally tired of me. Perhaps I crossed a line. It is of no matter. They have taught me that no matter how civil you are, no matter how reasonable you are, and no matter how well you follow the official board rules, you are utterly at the whim of capricious moderators who ban those who don't toe the party line. I learned that FAIR/MA&D is nothing more than another forum to proselytize the Church.

Interesting. I know that I was banned shortly after another poster---a fellow named Fakin Bakin, I think---said, in lieu of my arguments, that he was going to ditch the Church due the fact that it has not yet publicly renounced its ban on interracial marriage.

Either way, welcome to this board, SleepingWillow. I enjoyed reading your posts on the fittingly named MADboard very much.

I think Southwest has potential for being a good debator, but I think he's still unable to sufficiently separate his emotions from his logic. At least that was my experience on the homosexuality threads.

Boy, ain't this the truth. If they don't like you (no matter how reasonable and factual one's posts), you're gone. They don't even have a pretext of free speech over there. And, like ZLMB, it'll be their downfall (as it already has been to some extent).

Welcome to the board, Sleeping Willow! :)

You are definitely correct in your assertion of banning being at the whim of the moderators. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, all of the sudden, I noticed that you were listed as banned, and didn't have a clue as to why, since your posts seemed to be quite civil.

Glad you're here! :)

I think the Mods have stated that they can ban someone for any reason or no reason at all.

They're more like guidelines than actual rules (or whatever that pirate code thingie was from the movie).

The code is more like guidelines than actual rules, savvy?

Go ahead, ask them if they capriciously ban people who follow the board guidelines, stay civil and reasonable, but disagree with the party line. I put money down that you won't get anything except denial or a sarcastic form of yes. They're very proud of their "free-idea zone."
