The mix is still good. But if the critics begin to outweigh the LDS and the LDS are surrounded by the critics and haranged...well....

But this is where the skill of Shades will need to come in.

Were you serious in the above remarks?

Jersey Girl

Yes, I was very serious. I have seen it happen and it happened to me. I post a comment and 12 critics respond and since it is impossible to answer to all, I got flak from the administration for not answering posters....then, the banning for causing trouble. And it could happen here, if shades is not careful. A board like this needs to have a certain mix of LDS and critics posters and the balance needs to be good. If the critics outnumber the LDS two to one and the critics play wolf...well....the LDS will move on in my opinion.

It is not easy to get a healthy balance and keep the subject or board civil and balanced. However, the celestial room will need to be watched like a hawk to protect the LDS posters.

Good Luck Shades in this endeavor!

I see you share my exact apprehensions.

Yes, I do. I think the goal at MAD is too keep a healthy balance between critic and LDS and when the balance gets too heavy on the critic side, there is a culling process of some critics. MAD is an LDS board and I think that the mix is protected as such. And the balance is always good.

Critics are much more likely to show up at MAD and MDb. More so than LDS posters for both MAD and MDb. For the critic, the pleasure comes in the critique. But most LDS do not want to defend their beliefs in cyberspace so they can avoid such boards.

Thus, the LDS defenders can find themselves suddenly outnumbered and sneered at. Such is life in a survival of the fitest atmosphere.

That's just it, though, Why Me. The majority of critics here don't "play wolf". The only two who I really consider to "play wolf" as you describe are PP and Vegas.

Of course, on the apologist side of the table, we have Plutarch and Cog.

The rest, from what I have observed, engage in civil debate and discussion. Yes, there are times when the conversations can get heated, but it seems like for the most part, everyone is willing to "break bread" at the end of the day.

In contrast, I don't view the same tone on FAIR/MAD. And, there seem to be more "wolves" or "pit bulls" who come out on the attack on the apologist side than the critic side, in my opinion.

This doesn't really make any sense, Why Me. If LDS "do not want to defend their beliefs in cyberspace," then what is the point of a board like MAD? Why is there a field of LDS online apologetics at all? Moreover, if you would like to see a "better balance" of critics and TBMs, then why don't you invite some more TBMs/apologists over here?

Hi everybody. I came here from the tribtalk site after they yanked the religious forum and just want you to know I have and will encourage some of the LDS over there to check this site out. Watch for names like Igyu and Utah alum. and likely a few others. by the way, I have also mentioned it to some who like me are nevermos (I guess that's what you could call us)? I like balance too. :)

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and posting with those that will share.

P.P. Sorry it took so long for me to get here. Julie explained the site a little bit to me.

Hey great to see you here Cooper! Did you catch Pesky and Hermanuno's posts? JoeNormal is around here somewhere too. Like I told Joe, it'll take a faw days or so to find a comfort zone, but at least there are a lot more options here than on Trib and I have been made to feel welcome right away.

Thanks Julie. Yes it will take a little bit to find out what is what. There is sooo much to see.

I was talking to Utah A. on one thread and I almost felt guilty for asking a question. Not because of what Utah said but because it was about Religion. I kept my response simple so they didn't shut that thread also.

I am not good with a tight rope around me.

Yes, I did see some familar names. Well I am off to read.

I'm new here and have already noticed things seem to be pretty civil. As I said in another post, I'm hoping to get SLC TribTalk "refugees" from both sides to check this board out. ;)

Max a.k.a. Polygamy Porter, tried to reply to me on TribTalk today and they pulled his post to be moderated 1st. Needless to say he was hot and with good reason. They need to turn that thread off once and for all if the forum is closed. If they don't like what you post here, they just move it to the appropriate section. Pesky can vent all he wants and not be banned all of a sudden without warning!
