I think the worst thing we have to defend is why the Church commits resources to folks who rail against the Church with spittle dripping down their chins, but retain their membership and accept home teachers appointed by the Bishop to come and spend time with them.
It seems the Church should spend its PEF resources on computer geeks who have a hard time with literacy.

How bout a 2 billion dollar mall that sees no possible return other than further financial obfuscation?
And crawling on the planet's face Some insects called the human race Lost in time And lost in space...and meaning

I would think there were many atrocities before that.....huh....you really should read more history. Unless you're suggesting that they called 911...in which case there is no hope for you.
September eleventh is 911. Please do not make light of the slaughter.
Coming from the man who once started a post delighting in Joseph's death this means nothing to me.
the death of a con man bigamist - meh, no biggie
The Death Of over 150 men, women and children - just a footnote, nothing to see here
riiiiiiiiiight.

Hmmmm.....I would like you to point out a post where I gloated over their deaths.

Trying to keep an area beautiful is not a waste.

Utah?
Hahahahaha!!!
I can't think of one thing that is "worse" than others since I find the whole enterprise problematic, but I suppose if I had to give an answer with a urim and thummim held to my head it would be the "priesthood ban."
From the Ernest L. Wilkinson Diaries: "ELW dreams he's spattered w/ grease. Hundreds steal his greasy pants."

Don't get me started about Utah. :)
I still laugh every time I hear the words, "Zion's Bank".
Hey, back off!
I may be a countermo, but I love utah! I actually like it more now, than I did as a TBM. Sunday's in utah county are the best. I've pretty much got the place to myself.
WK: "Joseph Smith asserted that the Book of Mormon peoples were the original inhabitants of the americas"
Will Schryver: "No, he didn’t." 3/19/08
Still waiting for Will to back this up...
I don't think anyone's mentioned Joseph Smith' treasure digging past.
Remember when a well known apologist - I think it was nibley? - once said that if hard evidence of Joseph Smith' money digging was ever found, it would be serious trouble for the church? (obviously he underestimated both the power of True Belief and the apathy of most members)
If you really dig (hee hee) into this, you realize that if you're going to accept the apologetic notion that this was some sort of internship to being a prophet (talk about ad hoc), then you have to accept that people really CAN see slippery treasures disappearing into the earth, guarded by angry ghosts, by looking into a rock.
If you don't accept this apologia, and instead believe Joseph Smith was just being a pawn of his culture, then you have to accept he was willing to LIE about what he could see by looking into a rock.
Doesn't bode well for the Book of Mormon, which was translated by looking into a rock, either way.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.
By "worst" thing to defend, do you mean immoral or abominable?
That would be:
1. MMM
2. polygamy:
*defending the slander of innocent women or men who refused to engage in it
*defending the lies and secrecy surrounding the practice
*defending the emotional abuse caused by both polygny and polyandry
3. racism/banning blacks from the priesthood
4. editing church history or telling lies to church members intended to mislead others, cover up for Prophets sins, etc.
