(see 2 Nephi 28:8 rejecting the idea that God will simpoly "beat us with a few stripes, and at last we shall be saved in the kingdom of God) Dan Vogel wrote an essay about the Book of Mormon and universalism, if I have time later today I'll get some more Book of Mormon references from it.

The verse you quote (which I use a lot) is telling us that deliberate sin is not tolerated by the Lord. In fact, it points towards universalism, in the idea that it says that we must walk the narrow path before us and not deliberately walk off the path, thinking there is no punishment for such things.
