He and others claimed it because it was happening. Of course, Breitbart won't quote any of the months of attacks on gay folks that preceded the shooting. They also singled Collins out because he called them out. Here is the clip from his interview on Morning Joe:Gadianton wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 6:54 pmThanks Hawkeye,
Let's get this straight: you went on a rant and pasted a wall of text, and the wall of text had nothing to do with your accusations, and so you went looking for something that did? Do I have that right?
No better place than Breitbart:
Getting warmer, except that you haven't actually provided Collins actual words. Breitbart is doing an awful lot of filling in blanks here. Since all they have is this one example, you'd think they can provide an entire quote. For example, NBC’s Ben Collins claimed that “Republican politicians” and the “internet’s far-right machine” targeted LGBTQ+ individuals in the months leading up to the nightclub shooting.
It seems to me that for an issue like this, we can count on the unhinged right to quickly blame the left for blaming the right before the left has actually blamed the right yet.

We’ve moved on to the next mass shooting, 6 dead at a Walmart.
This is becoming a weekly occurrence across the country.

NBC reporter Ben Collins said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that “Republican politicians” and the “internet’s far-right machine” were targeting transgender people, which resulted in Saturday’s shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs, CO.Gadianton wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 6:54 pmThanks Hawkeye,

Collins said, “I do want to say, though, am I doing something wrong here? Here are some headlines that I wrote the last six months. ‘Fueled by internet’s far-right machine, anti-LGBTQ+ threats shut down trans rights and drag events.’ Remember, there was a drag event happening in Colorado. ‘Anti-trans stalkers at Kiwi Farms,’ which was an anti-trans website that stalks people, ‘are chasing one victim around the world. Their list of targets is growing.’ That was a couple of months ago. ‘Doctors under threat from far-right activist for providing trans care.’ ‘Boston Children’s Hospital faces bomb threat after right-wing harassment campaign.’ There were three of those bomb threats. ‘FBI charges Massachusetts woman with Boston Children’s Hospital bomb threats.’ They found one of the people. ‘At least 20 Republican politicians have claimed that schools are making accommodations for students who identify as cats.’ That was before the midterms.”
He added, “Here are three more from my colleagues in the last three weeks. ‘As the election nears, some conservative groups have ramped up anti-trans campaign ads.’ ‘Far-right figures appear to be testing Twitter’s boundaries for anti-LGBTQ speech.’ ‘GOP senator targets TikTok influencer with anti-transgender taunt.’ And I’m just wondering, what could I have done different? Seriously, as reporters, what can we do different? Because there are five dead people in a strip mall because that was the only place they felt safe as gay or trans people in this town of Colorado Springs. And I’m trying to thread this needle here. I’m trying to say this is happening. This targeted stuff has real-life impacts. And I’m going to fail, by the way. I’m going to, you know, freak out because it’s happening because I wake up, and I see that there are five dead bodies. But I think we have to have a come-to-Jesus moment here as reporters. Are we more afraid of being on Breitbart for saying that trans people deserve to be alive, or are we more afraid of the dead people? Because I’m more afraid of the dead people. I don’t want to wake up on a Sunday and see that all of these headlines came to fruition.”

So if you were a parent who didn't want your kindergartner going to drag queen hour (a domestic terrorist according to Merrick Garland's DOJ), you're the reason this (they/them) nonbinary Anderson Lee Aldrich (not even his given name at birth) killed 5 people at the gay bar.
The best part about this is waiting four years to see how all the crazy apocalyptic predictions made by the fear mongering idiots in Right Wing media turned out to be painfully wrong...Gasoline would hit $10/gallon. Hyperinflation would ensue.

From The Washington Post:
Mass shootings — where four or more people, not including the shooter, are injured or killed — have averaged more than one per day so far this year. Not a single week in 2022 has passed without at least four mass shootings.

According to DCP we shouldn’t discuss anything that might have contributed to the atmosphere from which these shootings arise.
We should just silently, implicitly condemn them. People already know they’re bad so just don’t say anything. If you must comment, just thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers.

At the MD&D apologetic Mormon website, they admit that the shooter was Mormon, but point to his not being currently active as an exoneration. Sounds like he was following Elder Holland's pleading to discharge his musket fire.
I can appreciate the MD&D position, most Mormons received heavy doses of homophobia during their formative years, and yet they do not become active shooters.

I should add that this could just be a crass move by him or his attorney to claim he’s non-binary. I’m sure there’s some sort of legal maneuvering involved, say, to get him out of a hate crime charge. But I dunno.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 1:11 pmThanks, DocCam. I think you are probably right. Sad event all around. The question should be not how the church can avoid culpability, even when the blame is misplaced, but how can we all do better at creating a world where things like this do not happen or, at least, happen much, much more rarely.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:53 pmI don’t disagree with Dowsin’ Dan. Here’s Heavy’s 5 FastFacts on the murderer and his family:
https://heavy.com/news/anderson-lee-aldrich/
Unless something comes out where he’s a DezNat type it’s hard to place him into an ideological box. You’ve got parental porn actors, a methhead dad, a MAGAt grandpa, a single mom, the murderer being bullied online when he was younger, and who knows what with regard to his time spent online. Even his nonbinary claim could be a clue as to why he shot up the club. Mass shooter often target places they themselves frequent or are familiar with.
Anyway. Obvs speculation - but I wouldn’t doubt this act is personal and something went down online between the murderer and someone affiliated with the club to whatever extent. The murderer, feeling rejected or bullied, takes it out on the club because he knows there’s an event and it’ll be full.
What I do know is he had no business owning/operating a weapon of any kind, much less a weapon that could kill a lot of people quickly. Our country has a deep sickness as evidenced by 1) the numerous mass shootings we suffer every year, 2) those that think it’s a price worth paying, and 3) the abject failure of our system to make mental health treatment point-of-service-no-cost and easily accessible to those that need it.
We live in a damned bananapants reality.
