Joseph Smith via Nephi said, "we have been led to a better land, for the Lord has made the sea our path, and we are upon an isle of the sea" and that "sea" which was their path across the ocean was the great brine as was the seas surrounding Nephi's "isle" with ocean water.
Think about it this way: Joseph Smith spied the southern tip of Delmarva as Lehi's landing. It's a very narrow strip of land leading from the end of a peninsula going northward. The narrative grants that Nephi was able to orient himself directional wise as being on the tip of Delmarva. He soon learned they were surrounded by ocean water because in scouting out the land they would inevitably learn that they were indeed surrounded by water. That is why Nephi Joseph Smith could say they were on an isle of the sea. It certainly fits the map in which Smith was using. When Lehi landed his ship they had three choices in which to make as far as travel:
1. Go left and follow the coastline where ever it leads
2. Go right and follow the coastline where ever it leads
3. Go straight inland and follow the land where ever it leads
Later, the book's narrative gives additional orientation and description of the main body of land. We are informed that they are "nearly surrounded by water" and could escape the isle-like land only through the narrow neck. It couldn't be more clear. A fool should be able to put it together. I think this thread has run its course and really what more can I say other than repeat myself? If you aren't on board with this theory, you can work out whatever the hell you want to believe. It's no skin off my back. Frankly, I don't give a damn. I've taken my time and energy to try and explain these things to members of this board and whoever happens to stop in and see what's going on here. But I don't want to lose any more sleep over this affair. I've said what I've said and readers can take whatever they want from it.
Brethren, adieu. (Sisters too. Lem, where the hell are you, gurl?)
Jesus H. Christ, I am so done with this f-ing thread.
Special thanks to all those who participated in this thread and gave me a helping hand. We did this together right here on Discuss Mormonism and you deserve credit and are part of this great reveal.
