Hi canpakes,

I may respond further to this post, but first, may I ask you if you have read Grant Hardy's "Understanding the Book of Mormon" all the way through? To the extent of figuratively and/or literally underlining points of interest, etc.?

I can't answer for canpakes, but I believe there are more than a few of us who have read both Hardy and Givens.

The antithesis of Samuel the Lamanite.

Just had to share it.

You see yourself as the antithesis of Samuel the lamanite? How does that fit into this conversation??

Can I get to be Korihor? He's the guy I admire most in the Book of Mormon. But just try to silence me.

Now this is a reasonable use of the Book of Mormon: a source of literary references, metaphors, characters. A sort of second string Elizabethan/frontier Methodist/Masonic cycle of dramas.

I think this point can't be overstated enough given the context of the conversation. MG's position is untenable given this and the fact Joseph Smith tried to sell the copyright to the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon couldn't be more worthless a witness to the point MG is making even if he dismissed all other sacred tomes out of hand.

Oh. Wait. He is doing that.

PS- It's funny how he hasn't brought up the Book of Abraham as corroborating evidence to his point.

What imagery!! I'm also fascinated by the guy shouting "LARGE FONTY," as I have literally not the slightest idea what that means.

Funny, looking at the Book of Mormon with fresh eyes is what caused me to consider it a fabrication.

I was referring to grindael. Go back and read again. If I need to change something to make that clear, let me know.
