Just curious - what does the bishop want to talk to you about?

Thank you! :)

We sent him the following email:

Dear Bishop-

After careful prayer and study of the scriptures, my wife and I have realized that we do not have a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true. Therefore, we would like to be released from our callings immediately as we will no longer be practicing members of the LDS Church.

Thank you,

Steve and Amanda

Wow, direct and to the point. That's pretty much what I told my bishop.

So, are you going to meet with him? Do you have a plan of attack here, or what?

I'm also amazed that both you and your husband are going through the exact same thing, at the exact same time. Not sure I've seen that happen before. Interesting.

Sorry if I'm being to nosey. And sorry for derailing the thread. Maybe Maggie needs her own thread?

Maggie/Selah : It is so much better when both the Husband & Wife are able to come to that same conclusion. You will (in short time) be able to get on which your life free of the Mormon entanglements that come when only one spouse leaves the Church.

My wife is still very active in her church. But somehow, we been able to over look the short comings that we preceive in each other. Their are many things that bug me but I have learned to hold my tongue. (I am sure their are things that bug her about me as well.)

We been able to tolerate our differences for 32 years. I am getting close to retiring and this may bring a whole new set of adjustments. Wish us luck....

Yes, it's very difficult when the spouses are not on the same page, so you're quite fortunate. I wish you all the best, Maggie/Selah. I know how you feel, mocnarf. I am in the same boat, and it has at times been very difficult. It's better now, but we have our moments. Here's wishing you luck. Wish us luck too.

Good luck, Maggie/Selah. I will be interesting to see what you have say. I followed a bit of your posts on MAD, but not all, so I think I remember a few things about your situation. Anyway, welcome and join the _________ (whatever the metaphor du jour is: cesspool? minefield? walk in the park? teeming sewer?)

To fill the blank we're just going with a generic title for the board today: Hell.

Welcome to Mormon Discussions Maggie, where we put the "Hell" in "Hello, Howyadoin, and What up in the Las Vegas?"

Awww....Nehor.... :(

How sad...

What I find sad is the fact that he would share her with another man. But hey - different strokes for different folks.

I didn't say he would agree....... :)

Hey Maggie, it's good to see you again. I apologize if I offended you while I was over there and thank you for correcting me on what I viewed wrongly about what happened. Nothing better than the pure source.

Welcome to the boards.

Wecome Selah, if you do any food inventorying around here, put all the baklava and M&Ms in a pile for Moksha. You already know where the donuts go.

This is a less structured board than MAD as you may well discover.

No worries. I'm pretty upfront on my blogs here (MADB blog) and here (MySpace - much better - more blogs there).

Plan of attack? No way. :P I'm just going to be honest with him. I actually just got a call from my RSP who says she had no idea that something was up but that my name had been on her mind for the past few days. So I told her that we were leaving the LDS church and that I had requested an immediate release from our callings. She asked me why, and I gently as possible explained it to her that we felt God was leading us elsewhere, we didn't know why, and that we had lost our testimonies in the Book of Mormon. She asked questions, and I prayfully answered them - remembering that she is a precious daughter of God and religion is a very dear and personal feeling - so I didn't want to hurt her feelings, even if we didn't get along beforehand that well. Her first questions were if we had been offended by anyone so I was as honest as I could be without making it sound like we were blaming anyone or running away - we just said that we had a difficult time adjusting to this ward and however, that had no bearing on this direction. I reminded her of Nephi and his conflicting commandments to murder Laban or be disobediant to God's will. She asked if she could still send visiting teachers and email me - and I told her of course. I told her I was nervous that others in the ward might disassociate with me because of what was going on, but I would not close myself off to them.

If another thread is started, let me know. I don't want to derail the thread either. :(
