Does accepting the fact that false memories do in fact exist (and they do) also mean that one should be so skeptical of all memories of childhood recalled during adulthood that one should publicly minimize victim reports?

Should victims' reports all be considered false, simply by association with a "false memory fiasco"?

Down in the Spirit Paradise forum Res Ipsa is a passionate defender of Dr. Ford and her sexual assault claims. As you might know, Dr. Ford claims to have recovered or reconstructed the memory of these events through therapy. Her defenders are very, very passionate about believing her claims. There are obvious parallels between the topic of this thread and that one. The face I posted along with the highlighted portions of Res Ipsa's post were meant to point out his blatant hypocrisy and to poke fun at him a bit through the use of imagery, in this case, a goofy looking red head with a "You got to be ____ kidding me." look on his face.

Your ignorance of the recovered memory movement is not an inconsistency in my statements. And your characterization of my statements as a “passionate defender” of F is flat out dishonest. If you think you can make he case that my comments about recovered memory therapy are inconsistent with my comments about F, go ahead. But do it using what I’ve actually said.

Okay. This is a pretty well-known incident so I wasn't sure whether your questions were rhetorical or not. To answer your question, I used the terms nonsense and gullible because that is my opinion about how Pace handled this issue. To answer your first questions, since it has been well established that the statements were not credible, I do think whomever he interviewed was not telling the truth. My understanding of the story does not include details about the intervewies, so no, I do not know what their motivations were.

Imagine for a second.... if this were true, what would it be like to be one of these victims? What level of fear? Isolation? Horror?

And then, 30 years ago, the media attacked the people who weren't minimizing the victims' reports.

Before comparing the two I'd like to see details on how the accounts were recovered, on both. I didn't hear that Ford was subjected to hypnosis, nor do I know if it was used in all of the cases that are being revisited in Northern Utah. There are other factors as well.
