This trend has been occurring for umpteen decades.Shulem
The apologists are all wrong. It took a critic to come to the truth and explain it.

Joseph Smith neglected to testify of his witness of seeing a separate and distinct Personage of the Father in his First Account of the First Vision because he hadn't yet read the King's name in Facsimile No. 3.
What is the King's name in Facsimile No. 3? Tell me that name!
Where is that narrow neck of land which takes only a single day to cross from Sea East to Sea West in order to keep the dark and loathsome Lamanites from penetrating the land of the north where the white people live in peace and get all the blessings from Quetzalcoatl?

Re: American Map
I think that a reasonable alternative to your concocted geography, that DOESN’T fit with the internal narrative of the Book of Mormon, should be taken seriously. And the link above takes into account the narrow neck issues that you’ve been dancing with in your Delmarva theory. I would think that as an honest investigator you’d at LEAST give this theory…or others…a shot. But no, I’d guess you wouldn’t. Your geography ‘proves’ the Book of Mormon to be fictional because the geography doesn’t in any way, shape, or form fit the internal narrative.Shulem wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 3:35 pmMG 2.0 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 6:19 am
The BYU folks aren’t the only ones in the game.

Shulem is welcome to come up with his own theory as to the narrow neck of land. The thing is, thers, including Dr. F. Richard Hauck and other folks have competing theories. And their research allows for the internal narrative of real people and real civilizations as described in the Book of Mormon.
MG, this is what I see in the information of the link you provided in the wish that archeological evidence of the Book of Mormon is hidden down in Mesoamerica, somewhere, anywhere:

I read enough in order to engage. If you’d like to engage me in regards to any of the talking points that I’ve made, that would be awesome.
Otherwise, just ignore me.

It Reminds me how apologists criticize the critics for not having read the Book of Mormon. Hypocrisy does seem to go around.
There is a big difference between MG and I. He's not read this thread and I've critically read the Book of Mormon more times than I have fingers and toes. I'm qualified to comment on the Book of Mormon. MG is not qualified to comment on this thread.
So, let's just ignore him and let him be ignorant.

MG,
you are welcome to cast your vote and I'll be happy to record it to the list. So far it appears that the voting has been unanimous but YOU can change that IF you vote.

It's the right orientation, the landmass is roughly the right size, and it is conveniently located to the Hill Cumorah. And it is easy to imagine how this geography found its way into the mind of Joseph Smith. Anything Smith said after publication of the Book of Mormon is completely irrelevant. The cat was out of the bag and he latched onto anything that embellished his fantasy.Shulem wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 9:21 pmPlease select which answer is the best match for the "narrow neck" as described in the text of the Book of Mormon in which the narrow neck was an important feature of the geographical terrain.

Narrow Pass
Oh heck, I'm back!
I thought it appropriate at this point to quote some supporting scripture in the Book of Mormon to substantiate the distance of the WIDTH of the narrow neck being only a day's travel from coast to coast.
Hey Philo, baby, look! It actually goes both ways:

I thought it appropriate at this point to quote some supporting scripture in the Book of Mormon to substantiate the distance of the WIDTH of the narrow neck being only a day's travel from coast to coast.
Alma 50:29-34 wrote:Therefore, Morianton put it into their hearts that they should flee to the land which was northward, which was covered with large bodies of water, and take possession of the land which was northward.
And behold, they would have carried this plan into effect, (which would have been a cause to have been lamented) but behold, Morianton being a man of much passion, therefore he was angry with one of his maid servants, and he fell upon her and beat her much.
And it came to pass that she fled, and came over to the camp of Moroni, and told Moroni all things concerning the matter, and also concerning their intentions to flee into the land northward.
Now behold, the people who were in the land Bountiful, or rather Moroni, feared that they would hearken to the words of Morianton and unite with his people, and thus he would obtain possession of those parts of the land, which would lay a foundation for serious consequences among the people of Nephi, yea, which consequences would lead to the overthrow of their liberty.
Therefore Moroni sent an army, with their camp, to head the people of Morianton, to stop their flight into the land northward.
And it came to pass that they did not head them until they had come to the borders of the land Desolation; and there they did head them, by the narrow pass which led by the sea into the land northward, yea, by the sea, on the west and on the east.
- People of Morianton are led by Morianton to flee into the land northward, which is covered with large bodies of water
- Maidservant of Morianton flees to the camp of Moroni and tells him about Morianton’s plans to flee north
- Moroni was concerned that the people in Bountiful would unite with Morianton and stir up trouble
- Moroni sends an army to head off the people of Morianton and stop their flight northward
- Moroni’s army headed them off at the borders of the land Desolation by the narrow pass (in the narrow neck) which led by the sea into the land northward by the sea, on the west and on the east
Hey Philo, baby, look! It actually goes both ways:
Alma 52:9 wrote:And he also sent orders unto him that he should fortify the land Bountiful, and secure the narrow pass which led into the land northward, lest the Lamanites should obtain that point and should have power to harass them on every side.
Mormon 2:29 & 3:5 wrote:And the Lamanites did give unto us the land northward, yea, even to the narrow passage which led into the land southward. And we did give unto the Lamanites all the land southward.
And it came to pass that I did cause my people that they should gather themselves together at the land Desolation, to a city which was in the borders, by the narrow pass which led into the land southward
