"Rocks don't speak for themselves" is an unfortunate phrase to use in defense of a book produced by a rock actually 'speaking' for itself... (I have a Question, 5.15.15)

Consider me your friend, ME. I have missed you.

Oh.my.gosh. Enough. I can't even. In the same thread with Red Ryder, Hagoth, Corsair, the Penguin, Fetchface, Allieoop, and, well the list is starting to grow. I have a confession. Tonight when I logged on and saw all you guys, I actually, for real, had to fight back tears. You all have meant so much to me. You have no idea. This past year 1/2 was pretty rough for me at times, particularly in my marriage. I kept meaning to get on NOM and share, but I always backed out as I started to type. But reading all your posts and insights, along with the other NOM posters, helped me get through a lot. Anyway, thanks.
I felt the same way when I saw this thread and saw some familiar faces. I'm old enough to appreciate the Cheers theme song. Ironic, huh? (Since most of you don't actually know my name!) But, I feel like we've been through a lot together. I will be sad if we lose all that history that we've created.
Good to see some of you here! SBM-- I hope things are improving with DH.
I enjoyed following NOM and occasionally posting there.
NOMinites, keep one thing in mind about this board, It is what the majority regulars make it.
Where ever the NOM future lies, one thing to keep in mind is that the Givens/Nu Order Mormonism appears to be Church sanctioned. i.e. Cafeteria, Middle Way, New Order Mormon's carry a name burden.
Nuanced Mormonism has found it's acceptance even at FairMormon.

I think it does.

No, it really doesn't. And your own prophets have told you repeatedly there is no middle way. Are you suggesting the prophets are leading us astray? Please repent and desist with your apostate beliefs. Thanks.

I think some (rare) people can find the rumored middle-way, just as a few (rare) people can walk a wire across Niagara Falls, but they have to be the true Givensoinian type who actually love the church and find its teachings and teachers uplifting and they have to win the Leadership Roulette game in a big way.
For most of us it seems to be more about seeking - and hopefully finding - a new place of mutual respect with our spouses, families, and neighbors, which sometimes is more about thickening our skin and honing our sense of humor in the face of less-than-Christian behavior. The constant apostate hating I hear at church is merely an echo of the High Sheriffs' battle against a middle way where people might might choose to navigate according to their own moral compass instead of the corporate Liahona. I think they embrace the Givens attitude because it helps the butts-in-pews numbers and it doesn't question their authority to call the shots.
If Terryl an Fiona were to denounce The Brethren their books would vanish from Deseret Books and their concert tour would screech to a halt so fast it would make your head spin. But I think it's safe to say that they have had their calling and election made sure and that's a pretty damn big Pascal's Wager.

I am a fan of theirs. Are you speaking tongue and cheek in regards to their calling and election made sure or are you privy to something the rest of us don't know?
