You make me wanna puke, Gaz.

It's ink. Period. Where do you see - "My tats symbolize that I am undependable, untrustworthy and a second class citizen"?

It's too bad that your religion teaches you to be judgmental and shallow. But, I was too while deep in the grasp of Mo'ism.

Truly pathetic. Enjoy living in your bubble - fearful and suspicious of anyone that isn't a clone of the ideal Mormon.

That depends on which one you know. If I knew Moonblossom but didn't know Ruth, I'd take Moonblossom. If I knew Ruth, I'd take Ruth. Actually, your finding pool for a babysitter for date night (if date night is Friday or Saturday night) isn't going to net you either of those choices. You're going to take Katie, who is 14, loves babies, and needs the money. Because Moonblossom and Ruth are both going to be out with their friends and/or boyfriends.

I would honestly chose the chick with the tats. I know that she is open and honest enough to get a permanent icon of what she supports and believes. The more conservative the dress, the more repressed I've known people to be. And generaly have alot to hide. I speak this from experience. I have in my family and aquantenances of my family, registered sex offenders. and they have ALWAYS been the "clean cut" "consertavively dressed" people. The most honest people I've ever known in my life are those that are happy to express themselves as they feel they should. they don't hold back. And as such, they generaly have much less baggage as a person.

I myself am getting a tattoo. The triplehorn avatar i have specificaly. right lower arm/shoulder.

As kind of a funny side story, when i went into the shop where im planning on getting my tat. The tattoist is a guy with facial tattoos, large gauged ears, silicone horn implants, and visible shoulder tats. Honestly, the very first thing that i thought when i went in there was, "oh, cool, he is normal". Cool guy too, awesome artist. I need to see if i can find a pic of this one he did of Hugnin and Munin (Odins ravens) as half arm sleeves. He had them in his portfolio, and they ruled.

It's not that we are supposed to look like people from the 50s; we are supposed to look like IBM employees from the 50s.

Well, for the guys yes for women....well, more like Tupperware representative from the fifties! :-)

I actually saw a special on Tupperware on PBS... I couldn't get over how much it looked like the LDS ideal. It is like the church got stuck in that era!

That's exactly right. I was thinking more along the lines of June Cleaver vacuuming in pearls, but the Tupperware representative is it.

True story: When I was working on the "Branch Guidebook" at the COB, they had a photo of an Asian family kneeling together in prayer. When it came back from the Seventy who was reviewing it, we were instructed to Photoshop pants on the teenage daughter, as her knee-length shorts were inappropriate. Given that she was kneeling, the photo showed just a bit of knee, and part of one sock. But that was enough.

Hi Gaz...

I think what is sad is that many folks really believe you can tell the heart of another by their appearance.

Yes.... we generalize, our brains clump information, we use our visual sense to gain information.... but in my opinion, what it means to live consciously is to understand our tendencies and move beyond them.

For example... we think men with a nice clean cut, wholesome look are decent. But the reality is most child molesters look pretty clean cut and decent. You may think a girl with a tatoo is going to harm your child but some of the most amazing, tender, caring young people I know have tatoos.

You know?

I think part of being an evolved human is to embrace the ability to move beyond our prejudices and judgments...

Gaz - there's this old saying - something about judging a book by it's cover...
WK: "Joseph Smith asserted that the Book of Mormon peoples were the original inhabitants of the americas"
Will Schryver: "No, he didn’t." 3/19/08
Still waiting for Will to back this up...

But the church explicitly teaches people to judge books by their covers:

. The way you dress is a reflection of what you are on the inside. Your dress and grooming send messages about you to others and influence the way you and others act. When you are well groomed and modestly dressed, you invite the companionship of the Spirit and can exercise a good influence on those around you.

Not only that, but it tells us here that if we dress a certain way it will influence the way we ourselves act. Reminds me of a guy in my current ward who sports long hair and a full beard. One day, a friend's little boy said, "Daddy, is that Jesus over there?" The father said, "Yes, that's Jesus, and he's here to make sure you are behaving."

So, maybe we should all dress and groom ourselves like Jesus so that we influence ourselves to be more like Him.
