Why are ancient philosophers more important than the philosophers of today?

I was wondering about the same thing lately in connection with this new video "The Secret." You make a claim that something is based on ancient spiritual truths and suck in a whole lot of people who never stop to wonder why. Maybe the biggest myth of all is that there is some ancient secret that can be discovered and be our answer to everything and anything. The ancients did have some amazing knowledge and wisdom, but they didn't have inside information from God any more than they had fairy godmothers with magic wands.

The part to pay attention to is when you are able to duplicate the miraculous events spoken about by the prophets.

When I am able to follow Moronis promise (Moroni 10:3-5) and get an answer to my prayer, then I know that Joseph was a prophet and the Book of Mormon is true, and build from there.

If you want to ponder the wisdom of Plato, that's your bussiness, but you will find no enlightenment or salvation in it. I'll take 2 Nephi chapter 2 over everything Sigmund Freud wrote in his entire life any day.
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. - Plato

Kerry Shirt and David Bokovoy seem to find enlightenment in everything from Ugarit tablets to the Zohar, no matter how bizarre or unrelated to the Book of Mormon.

An answer to prayer is a mighty subjective thing and explainable in a number of non-supernatural ways. If you could duplicate, say, the parting of the Red Sea, then you'd have something.
