Aaaand they’ve turned comments off entirely.
Well done, Mormon patriarchy! Proclaim the most empowered women of any religion, and then silence their voices when thousands disagree. Brother Putin sends his regards.

So much power and authority that the Church just deleted 8,000 comments (many from TBM women) from their Women and Priesthood Instagram Post. This just shows how much the Church values women and their opinions.
Folks, you can't make this stuff up.

Re: Mothers in Zion - why they're leaving
Instagram rolled out changes this morning, and reports of problems (including with comments) abound. I went to the site and could find comments from one and two days ago, before the alleged deletions began. The interface for viewing comments (at least in my browser) is terrible.
ETA: My browser doesn't show the total number of comments. I tried it on my phone, and it shows over 11,000 comments, going back three days (which is what my phone shows for how along ago the original post was).

To be fair, some of the comments were by men - or should I have started with "Not all comments ..."?Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 6:45 pm"There is no other religious organization in the world that has so broadly given power and authority to women."Dr Moore wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 4:54 pmThe discussion rages on at Reddit.

Oh, and the comments are back up! 11,700 and counting.
This is amazing to see the women of the church rise up in a united voice calling out the gaslighting.

The SLTrib is also reporting lost posts.

I do hope that the Q15 takes this seriously. There are a lot of people who are unhappy with the status quo.
LDS Church responds to firestorm over speech about women, points to glitch for vanishing social media comments
They came fast — though not furious — nearly 8,000 comments, the majority from current and former Latter-day Saint women, pushing back against what was clearly intended to be a positive message of female empowerment.

Re: Mothers in Zion - why they're leaving
I’d like to add the tendency for men raised in the church (whether they stay or not) to defend each other when violence is done towards women. Treating us terribly is so normalized that many men make a game out of it. We’re born to be basically owned and then if we object or try to stand up for ourselves, it’s a call for a horde of other men to help the man who’s attacking us.
We’re allowed no perspective and if we assert one anyway, we can expect to be drowned. It’s preferred we remain silent.
But what do you do if you’re already being held under water and you’re struggling to get your nose above the surface sometimes?
And apologies don’t happen. We’re treated as if it’s asking too much to want one. It’s a very rare person who has the courage to come to our defense. And when they try, they get attacked mercilessly.
I’m convinced most men who were born LDS have almost no understanding of what it’s like to be an LDS woman. It’s so completely different for you that you can’t even begin to comprehend how difficult you make it for us.
I’m so glad I never associate with Mormon men anymore…. except here, where I anticipate a full dose.

Re: Mothers in Zion - why they're leaving
And the women who are still caught in the mental binds jump on the bandwagon and attack us too. My guess is that it’s out of fear that if they don’t coddle up to the men and copy the disrespect, they’ll find themselves on the receiving end as well.
Lots of fear.
It’s long past time for it to all end.
But I doubt it will.
Violence against women has been normalized for centuries.
It’s just fine if people with lots more power treat a woman terribly, but if anything happens to the powerful man, it’s a call for their defense.
That’s how the whole “repentance” process works: protect the offenders and ridicule the victims if they speak. Whatever happened to making women whole instead of simply offering the offenders grace and the women gags?
