Sorry...must be early Alzheimer's setting in. LOL
Some Schmo wrote:On issues like this, there are two broad types of people: those that seek comfort, and those that seek the truth. If I'm sick and go to the doctor, and he realizes I have cancer, he has two options: he can tell me I have cancer (the truth) or he can tell me everything is going to be fine (comfort). What I want to hear just depends on my value system. Some people don't care what the truth is if it makes life easier to deal with and them happier. Other people would rather be "in the know" and don't like to be lied to (nor lie to themselves) for the sake of warm fuzzies. It just depends on your priorities.
Hmmm...I suppose I fall somewhere in the middle. (Of course, in the little quiz on Mormonism that someone found on another thread, I scored in the "moderate Mormon" category, so this is probably a trend. LOL)
If I had cancer, I would want the doctor to tell me the truth, so that I could set my affairs in order for my family (finances, etc.). But I would still be hopeful about the possibility of a cure...so the "warm fuzzy" factor still exists for me, too.
