I am just curious to see whether any of the participant here (particularly Polygamy Porter, MormonMendacity, Scratch, and Tal Bachman) consider themselves to be bigotted against the CoJCoLDS?

It could probably be just as easily argued that the CoJCoLDS is bigoted against them.

Hey, why're you picking on me, Wade? And for the record: No, I do not consider myself bigoted against the LDS Church.

I think the church does a lot of good and a lot of bad. On the whole, I'd say the bad outweighs the good. Does that make me a bigot? I don't know. You decide.

Educated people might ask if we could be described as bigots because we are "...strongly partial to our own group, religion, race, or politics and intolerant of those who differ"?

If that is your real question, and the fog of your prejudice makes it hard for me to tell, then my having many friends and loved ones inside Mormonism would lead me to believe that I am not a bigot.

One might also ask if that describes you or could you be too "resistent to self-criticism, lack open and honest introspection, and/or fail to accept personal/group responsibility for difficulties you may experience with others" to recognize it?

Well, lets look at the definition first.

Bigot:

"One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ."

Yes, I'm partial to my view (isn't everyone?). But I'm not intolerant of those who differ - my wife included.

Gee, all of that protesting from a simple, unassuming question.

It reminds me of times as behaviorist treating emotionally distrubed 4th to 6th graders, when I would greet some of them with a smile, they would belligerantly reply: "what are you smiling at....I haven't done anything wrong". This would then clue me in that they invariably had done something wrong. ;-)

Now, as I indicated to Kevin, I am certainly open to considering whether I am the bigot or not. From what I can determine using the generic identifiers of bigotry that I compiled, I don't come anywhere close to qualifying. But, if you and others may wish to demonstrate otherwise, I will hear you out and thoughtfully consider what you say. Will you return the favor?
