GAs in a Bubble?
Have you ever heard someone say that such and such politician is out of touch with the people? I suppose this happens when they get caught up in the rarefied atmosphere of Washington and only have their advisors and sycophants for information on the outside world and thus their information is heavily filtered and slanted.
I have been concerned for a while now that GAs may exist in a bubble and are not necessarily in touch with the thoughts of the members at the base of the LDS pyramid. They certainly have their advisors and many sycophants. The members of our Stake even stand when the GAs step onto the dais. We put them on a pedestal and behave with our best behavior. The higher the GA the higher their pedestal and the thicker their bubble becomes.
Where is the opportunity for genuine feedback and assessment of those at the bottom of the pyramid? No one says the General must know what the Privates are saying, and yet politicians seem to perform best when they are in touch with the people.
What do you think?

I agree. Like the amazing Official Declarations that declared Polygamy == BAD! and Blacks-can-now-have-the-priesthood coincidentally coming right after the LAWS were upheld banning polygamy and the Civil Rights movement dispelling acceptance of racial intolerance.
The church leaders look over their shoulders, see the members marching in a different direction and then they have to run around in front of the crowd and yell, "Good! You're all following our lead!"

I think putting people in a bubble is part about protection and part about protecting there mystique. If people were allowed to be around the prophet (or the US President for that matter) they might realize that person isn't any greater than the Average Joe and may lead to disregarding the person as an authoritative figure.
Incidently, I think that the putting on any high profile person in a bubble is really a problem when that person is supposed to be a "man of the people". I think that being placed in this bubble really takes the humility away from the person and leads to being out of touch with reality.
I say their is little chance for genuine feedback from the bottom, especially with religious leaders. Religion at the end of the day requires a leap of faith, and if the leaders were to realize that some of the people don't believe, *gasp* they may question their own believe.

A couple of points. For one thing, the Church has made a concerted effort to elevate the status of the President/Prophet ever since the administration of David O. McKay. There is a good passage in Quinn on this called, I think, "adoration of the LDS President." Second, a frequent criticism leveled against the GAs has to do with their typically advanced age. In other words, critics maintain that they are still living in the 1950s, etc., and are in effect well behind the times.

Of course they're behind the times. Almost all religious leaders are.

To even attempt to imply that church leaders need to be in touch with the "little people" causes problems. The leaders do not answer to the little people. They are simply the voice of G-d. The imput of it's members are not important.

So, can we conclude that God is behind the times?

If there really is a God, and he is the Alpha and Omega, all powerful, he/she/it should always be relevant.
I think spirituality is great. It's a good way of answering unknowns in life, like emotion and love and many other things.
Religions come and go, but in this huge ever expanding universe where they're always a new enigma, God, as a symbol and answer for the enigmas of the world, will probably always be relevant. Or at least a catch all for the unknown.

Actually bubbles are good when you are taking a bath and you want to cover yourself...in case someone walks in
Si if GA'a are living in a bubble...which they are...then they can cover themselves...in case someone walks in...
So living in a Bubble can be very very conveint....fo GA's
When I wake up I will be hungry....but this feels so good right now aaahhhhhh........

Not sure where talking about the same bubbles here.
I will now burn the image of any of the GA's taking a bubble bath out of my mind with a blowtorch.
