Is it a sin to eat shrimp?

Post by _Polygamy Porter »

Leviticus 11:9-12 says:
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Deuteronomy 14:9-10 says:
9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:
10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

Lefarticus 69:69
And it was decreed upon all the flocks and fowl that shrimp also must not be consumed, for lemon butter was not plentiful upon the face of the land.

This scripture passage clearly shows a lack of condiments being the reason shrimp as not good to consume.

Is it a sin to eat shrimp?

Only if one insists on heavy breading (although a light tempura batter is okay). Maximum holiness in the eating of shrimp occurs in the presence of curry sauce.

I just had surf and turf at a place here in town called on the border, a tex-mex chili's type place. The damn things were almost as big as prawns!

This is a dumb poll. I would vote that eating shrimp is only a sin to those who promise not to do it (such as when the Israelites covenanted with God under the Law of Moses). I would say that homosexuality is similar. It is a sin for those who promise not to do it (or those who know they should promise not to but refuse to enter into such covenants).

If it is, I'm sinning in a little more than 10 minutes.

Yay for delivery!
