How does the church count exmembers and inactives?
I have a few questions.
How are members who officially resign counted by the church?
Do children of resigned parents get counted, or do they go down as resigned too?
If a 20 year old was to join and go inactive within the year, how long will that member be counted?

They count them as part of the membership. In reality the active member percentages I encountered were running around 30-40 percent. 1/5 of those were semi active.

No. They remain on the records.

Always, unless they ask for name removal.

Ray A is right.
They keep counting name-removed people in their totals as though nothing had happened.
They keep their "lost contact" members on the books until they'd be 110.
In fact, they don't always remove the Mormons who die.
To make matters worse, they sometimes add "ghost members" to the total with a keystroke or two to make the numbers look better.

Doc Shades,
You seem to have a lot of data. What's your best guess on the number of "real" members since 12 million seems to be too high?

Member who have their name removed are not counted, nor are excommunicated members. Children of members who asked to have their name removed are counted unless the parent has the child's name reviewed.

This is correct.

Yes they do, if they know about it.

No they do not.

I have no idea and couldn't even begin to speculate.

Jason, did you even bother to click on the link I provided and read it?

Huh? There wasn't any "fuzzy" math there at all. It was all simple addition and subtraction only.
