Has anyone posted ground rules for interviews of specific posters? Are the interviewers the only people who are to make comment or ask questions on the interview threads?

The whole "interviews" phenomenon sort of spontaneously generated thanks to Tal Bachman. The concept was never organic to Mormon Discussions, so there are no rules in place for it.

I'd say do whatever you want. Normal rules of netiquette probably apply as always, though.

Okay, thanks, Shades. I know that the interviews were initiated by Tal, I just hadn't seen any sort of ground rules for them.

I was initially critical of Tal for this, but it has turned out to be rather idiosyncratic to MDB, and a good idea. My feeling as an interviewer (others will be different) is to let the person speak and express their feelings, and not to be judgemental. I'm trying to get their point of view, not impose mine. Critical questions are in order, but the interviewee is the one under the spotlight. My feeling is that questions from others are in order, but only when the interview has significantly progressed, and I think the interviewer should be the one to give the okay for "questions from the floor". But as Shades says, no rules are in place yet. Perhaps it might be an idea to even have a separate interview forum? Something like the "one on one" that Z had?

Hello Ray,

I was thinking in terms of a separate forum for interviews, too. I think your ideas about letting the interviewee express themselves without judgement or interruption (by others asking questions) is spot on. That's why I asked about ground rules and whether or not it would be allowable for others to pose questions. I also like the idea of letting the interviewer make the call on opening the thread to questions from the floor. If others are reading here, do you find the protocol outlined by Ray to be acceptable? Should we try to follow it at least informally?
