The MADmods have Overhauled the Search Feature

Post by _Mister Scratch »

Earlier today, I noticed someone posting a complaint about the "search" feature over at the fittingly named MADboard. This complainant was basically chiming in after Calmoriah had issued a query. It turns out that I agreed with both Cal and the other poster: the "search" feature ever since the September reboot has really been pretty lame. So, how do you suppose the MAD admins dealt with the problem? By eliminating the ability to search by poster! That's right: no longer can you view all of, say, Prof. Peterson's posts. Or julianns. Or Pahorans. Instead, you are limited to the ability to search by keywords alone.

And I cannot help but speculate here. My guess is that the decision to do this is a direct result of the recent assault on juliann's scholarly integrity. In an effort to "protect [their] posters," the fittingly named MADmods are now trying to prevent people from digging up old, embarrassing statements by certain posters. What an unbelievable, disappointing turn of events!

Oh my gosh! What a newsflash! What's next from those MADmen? Changing the color of the background? When will outrage cease?

I have had access to all of Dan Peterson's posts for months, using the search feature. I just checked Juliann's and I'm able to access 280 pages of her posts.

So... What are you saying? You like the new search feature? It makes things easier for you?

Oh no! What names will the posters use next? Will their pseudonyms fail to use the correct first letter?!? Dear, oh dear, whatever shall we do!

Can you search by poster or not? How is it that Ray is able to do so? Just curious.

I think I have it figured out. You have to click "more option" when you initially click "search" and it will let you search by poster name.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

I do. With one click you can find all the member's posts in chronological order, or by topic. But I tend to agree that going over old ground is not always productive. I know of few people who haven't read old posts and ask themselves, "did I write that?" RFM only keeps about two weeks of archived posts, as well as allowing anonymity, and I think with good reason. Can you imagine a TBM family member accessing two years of "apostate" posts? I think sometimes privacy does need to be protected.

Ah, so that's it! Well then, I will simply chalk all this up to my own ineptitude. C'est la vie!
