Infidel...
Religion. a. a person who does not accept a particular faith, esp. Christianity.
b. (in Christian use) an unbeliever, esp. a Muslim.
c. (in Muslim use) a person who does not accept the Islamic faith; kaffir.
2. a person who has no religious faith; unbeliever.
3. (loosely) a person who disbelieves or doubts a particular theory, belief, creed, etc.; skeptic.
–adjective 4. not accepting a particular faith, esp. Christianity or Islam; heathen.
5. without religious faith.
6. due to or manifesting unbelief: infidel ideas.
7. rejecting the Christian religion while accepting no other; not believing in the Bible or any Christian divine revelation.
What is the difference between an infidel and an apostate?

Is this a "what's the difference" joke, TD? (Kidding.)
An infidel is one who accepts no faith, rejects faith without having accepted it. An apostate is one who accepts then turns from the faith they accepted (at least under the dictionary definition, not the complex sociological studies we've been debating recently.)

Hi Ray... LOL! Actually after I wrote the post I thought I should try to come up with a funny answer so it could be a joke but alas nothing came to me! It certainly has the potential for something funny don't you think?
In a few speeches I listened to, some Muslim terrorists were referring to those who have left their faith as infidels as well... so I wasn't sure if my dfn was accurate.
I just started reflecting on the rhetoric used by various groups... seems apostates, infidels both are followers of Satan, destroyers of family and truth, etc. etc. etc. One could replace "apostates" with "infidels" and still be on track with their beliefs.
What could be worse than an infidel/apostate? Ya know? :-)

I think I qualify under everyone of these criteria. I guess we found something the Muslims and Christians can finally agree on, I'm an infidel.

Hi James... LOL!
Yeah... apostates and infidels are the same....followers of Satan!
Infidels choose to go against God, are caught by Satan's trap, let hurt feelings destroy their salvation.
If you are married to an infidel you must divorce him/her.
We must punish infidels and cast them out of our presence.
Infidels have let evil destroy their life.
Infidels are evil sinners.
Ya know? :-)

What I want to know is who the heck created these words? I could not see myself going around calling people infidels because they didn't believe like me.

That's because you are an infidel, have been taught incorrectly, and are a woman (thus unable to do more than cook, clean, and have your master's babies). Rebellious, smart, thinking women are not valued in those societies.

ROFLMAO!
Ok, you're giving me tattoo ideas, stop that. A whole lot of people would ask why I had "infidel" tattooed on me.
