WELCOME TO OUR NEW MODERATOR: LIZ3564
Posted: Fri Feb 09, 2007 1:26 am
Hi everyone,
As we all know, the volume of posts here has steadily been increasing. Even so, up until now I've been able to (barely) keep up with my moderating duties.
This past week was the tipping-point, though. It's clear that there's no longer any way I can keep up with it on my own.
This was compounded by the fact that I recently decided, on a lark, to do a Juliann-style search and input various swear words into our "search" feature and see what comes up. Holy cow, I was amazed by how many I'd missed!! Like I said earlier, I thought I was doing a good job keeping up, so I was surprised by how many posts I'd completely missed.
So if it wasn't clear before, it was perfectly clear afterward that I simply can no longer keep up.
THEREFORE, a new moderator has been brought onboard: Liz3564.
Now, let me state, for the record, that there are many, many people here who are eminently qualified to moderate this message board. The reason Liz has been made a moderator (at the exclusion of everyone else) is for one simple reason: She volunteered. That's it.
Keene and I discussed this at length, and we both feel that she's neutral enough to moderate effectively. So we extended the offer, and she has accepted.
So, she's coming onboard for a two-week (or so) trial period to ensure that this move works out for everyone. She has been mailed a long list of instructions on how to moderate the way MormonDiscussions does and how NOT to moderate like MA&D does. IF ANYONE HERE HAS A PROBLEM WITH LIZ'S MODERATION, please PM either myself or Keene and we'll work it out.
You're probably asking yourself, "what's the big deal? Why is this even being announced?" Well, the answer is simple: We want to avoid the very appearance of MA&D. We want to avoid any and all similarity to it. Over on MA&D, moderators are hired behind the scenes and given anonymous sock-puppets, allowing them to escape all accountability and rule with an iron fist. There's no accountability; they run roughshod over their participants and dispense threats like candy.
Here at MormonDiscussions, on the other hand, there is no "stealth moderation" whatsoever. The list of moderators is clearly posted at the top of every forum. Currently, there are four moderators here: Keene, Negative, myself, and now Liz3564. Keene is extremely hands-off, to my knowledge only deleting one post (one of mine!). Negative stays pretty hands-off too, only making (very minor) changes when I specifically ask him. So if you see any sort of edit or moderator post, up until now it's been mine, but from here on out it will be either mine or Liz's. If you have a problem or an issue with either of us, then by all means, don't just leave--send Keene or me an e-mail and let's work it out together.
See? Unlike MA&D, there's no mystery about moderator identities.
Now back to your regularly-scheduled programming, and thanks to EVERYONE for making MormonDiscussions.com such a success!
