Tienanmen Square at MAD

Post by _moksha »

I received information that the experiment with openness at MAD is now at an end. Instead of their new glasnost leading to the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, it is more like the mods in their armored tanks restoring the old order at Tienanmen Square. And they had good reason, Dr. Daniel Peterson had threatened to curtail his posting at MAD if the old order was not restored. Not wanting that to happen, their brave new world was abandoned as a hush fell over the crowd.

Charity was wondering if offending posters could be cast into outer darkness, Pahoran issued the expected insults and Dunamis put their policy succinctly, "We'll always strive for the "right mix" of posters and personalities and prune when necessary." There was no mention of gas ovens for sanitary disposal after the pruning.

Actually, I think Dr. Peterson is going to curtail his posting regardless. He said he was getting tired of always having to talk about himself.

I thought that was the main reason he was on the boards - to talk about himself. At least, most of his posts gave me that impression...

Just a little advice for him - if he stopped egging people on, I'm sure the 'DP bashing' would die down. (hint - putting RfM quotes about yourself in your sigline might be part of the problem).

There was an experiment with openness at MA&D?

They sure allowed alot more the time I was there. The board war threads started by Sput probably wouldn't have lasted 8 posts, let alone 8 pages if the old mode of moderating had been in effect. Either way there's a new sheriff in town (or a retired sheriff just unretired).

Don't you suppose that reverting back to the old order of things will lure Dr. Peterson back? After all, staying out of the limelight and away from his adoring fans would be hard to do. If he only posts sparingly to announce his new books and such, will that have a lasting affect on MAD?

I would say yes. MAD was the cyber homebase of Peterson (so to speak) and I think most critics/investigators/believers show up there at some point because whether he likes it or not, he is the face of Mormon apologetics and he is the numero uno Mormon apologist . If he drops posting (yeah right) I would expect to see some dropoff, at least from the critics showing up to go a round or two with him.

Edit: Perhaps he left the boards to train for a steel cage match with Scratch.

Most casinos have decided it isn't worth the analysis.

Sorry.

He likes it. Never doubt that for a moment. And he's letting his virtual life overlap into his real life.
