The purchase of items required for worship.

Post by _Mephitus »

I think i heard somewhere that there is a US law prohibiting a religious institution from requireing its members to purchase items that are required for worship. Using google i wasent able to find much of anything, but im curious if this still has any merit, or if it was just a rumor.

I've never heard of that. And I doubt it could exist. If items are required for worship, they have to come from somewhere, unless they grow on trees.

I remember when I was younger missionaries used to try to sell copies of the Book of Mormon, rather than just handing them out like candy.

If you're a Scientologist, you'll never hear of Emperor Xenu unless you fork out into the hundreds of thousands of dollars for the precursor auditing and training, or you go look it up for free on the Internet. ;)

No more prayer shawls, yamukes, rosaries (mumblebeads) or peyote? Yikes.

What about clothing? Do I have to wear clothes to worship? Last I checked, I had to pay for my clothes.

I don't know about you, but I know some people I'd rather not see without clothing, especially at church.

resorting to personal attacks rather than discussing the proferred question? how like you and other TBM's gaz.

oh, and on a side note, wtf do goats have to do with anything? also, the "head heathen" is called archaeology, though just so you know what to call the clergy, they are called "Gothi" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothi in case you want to make fun of them too. Though ill warn you, all the gothi I've met are ex-military. So they arent exactly the kind that would take crap from people like you.
