MAD poll

Post by _Fortigurn »

There are some interesting results on a recent poll over at MAD:

Do you think that either through your testimony or through your logic you will convince the opposition that your correct?

Yes, always [ 0 ] ** [0.00%]
No, never [ 8 ] ** [17.39%]
Occassionally [ 20 ] ** [43.48%]
Don't care, It's pointless, I just like to banter [ 18 ] ** [39.13%]

That's very telling. It certainly explains the overwhelmingly negative and abusive style of posting.

Here is a quote that may shed some light on why the answers were given in the poll the way they were.:

"I had only traveled a short time to testify to the people," said Brigham Young, "before I learned this one fact, that you might prove doctrine from the Bible till doomsday, and it would merely convince a people but it would not convert them. You might read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and prove every iota that you advance, and that alone would have no convereting influence upon the people. Nothing short of a testimony by the power of the Holy Ghost would bring light and knowledge to them - bring them in their hearts to repentance. Nothing short of that would ever do."

My gues is that many there understand this. Unless a person is wiling to give an honest and sincere prayer, and call down a revelation for themselves, they will never stand independent on their own testimony.

Is that the reason for the overwhelmingly negative and abusive style of posting?
