One of my very secret informants has passed along a bombshell of a tip. As many here know, the fittingly named MADmods have long prided themselves and booting out "sockpuppets" (this despite the fact that the mods themselves employ sockpuppets), and so the presence of William Schryver (a.k.a. "Provis," a.k.a. "Chozah") marked them as hypocrites. Why, I cannot help but wonder, does the moderating team at MAD tolerate sockpuppetry from the likes of Schryver?

It turns out that it only gets worse. Whereas Schryver was largely seen as being at least passably scholarly in his postings, it appears that the MADmods have given a free pass to someone who has been banned multiple times. Not only that, this is a poster who was banished to that very special placed, reserved for only the worst of the worst, purgatory!!!.

Yes, folks, you heard it here first: Hammer is a sockpuppet for the "purgatory-ied" poster called 'Serious'!!! This seems especially significant, given how prominent and over-the-top Hammer is as a poster.

Here is some other information, direct from the mouth of my secret informant:

Agent X wrote:Hammer and Serious both went to Hawaii on their missions
Both moved to Utah valley directly after their missions
Both had parents that went on a mission to Georgia where they had lots of success among "the blacks"
Both reference Apostle Cowley, and both spell his name "Calley"
Both have had experiences with the Three Nephites
Both were beat up by blacks and hispanics in their predominately minority high schools

Coincidence? I think not! What will be interesting is to see how the MAD moderating team deals with this explosive discovery... Time will tell.....

Tell Madame Fancher she's doing a great job. The endless hours she spends digging through MAD threads is an inspiration to us all.

It will be interesting to see if they ban him for sockpuppetry, or, conversely, if they allow him to stay. If it is the latter, I think that it would be impossible not to see it as evidence that this most popular of all LDS apologetics messageboards is in a state of free-fall.

Edited to add: given how scrupulous Dan_G is in terms of ferreting out sockpuppets, the continued posting by Hammer can only mean one of two things---(1) Hammer fooled all the MADmods, including Dan_G, or (2) Dan_G, juliann, et. al. knew about the sockpuppet all along and have hypocritically allowed it to stand. There really is no way they can come out looking good on this one. They truly have "screwed up yet again."

Wasn't there a suggestion that Rocky Terrain was one of his sockpuppets too? I actually checked and RT stopped a month or so before Hammer showed up. Probably just a coincidence.

If Hammer is a diehard Mormon defender, then obviously "Serious" was a diehard Mormon defender as well.

If that's the case, what on earth could "Serious" have done to deserve being placed in Purgatory? Purgatory is reserved for critics, not defenders.

I suppose this is one of those instances which can be filed under the vague and absurd MAD rubric of "tone." I would guess that 'Serious' was banned for reasons similar to those which led to the banning of RockyTerrain. As for the extremity of 'purgatory,' who knows? It is a mad, mad, mad, mad world, I reckon.

He could have used a capital letter "M" instead of using the phrase, "breaking the law of chastity".

I meant that the original account might have been banned due to massive personal attacks. The mods may have told him/her to come back with a (new face) puppet but to be "TBM nice".
