What is anti-mormonism?
Well what is it? :-)
It is discussing the fact that Joseph Smith looked into a hat with a stone to translate plates which may or may not have been real?
Is it discussing Joseph Smith's behavior regarding marrying girls as young as fourteen, marrying women who are already married? marrying women when he was already married? His lying? Deceiving? Coercing? Manipulating?
Is it discussing the fact that there are some issues and inconsistencies in the Book of Mormon suggesting it may not be what leaders have claimed it to be?
Is it discussing some teachings and practices of Mormonism that are unhealthy and certainly not in the best interest of families and individuals?
Is it discussing and admitting the problems with the Book of Abraham?
Is it discussing the questionable behavior of LDS leaders?
Is it discussing problems and admitting mistakes so new improvements can be made?
If something is true but not faith promoting is it "anti" material?
What about when people discuss possible problems with the changing teachings and doctrines of the church?
I would suggest that the truth should not be considered anti-mormonism but it seems that anything that is not faith promoting qualifies as anti.
What do you think?

Hi MG...
Not really trying to go anywhere. :-)
It just seems that leaders suggest members "stay away from anti material"... what does this mean?
I've been involved with the online LDS/infidel (smile) community for a long time and have rarely (maybe a handful of times) found anything that critics state that is not true.
Do the leaders want people to stay away from truth? It seems they are equating anti Mormonism with anything that is not faith promoting, true or not.
If Bushman writes about Joseph Smith looking in a hat with a stone to translate plates it is all fine but if a non-believer makes such a statement is it anti-mormonism? If an apologist admits Joseph Smith hooked up with girls and women other than his wife, lied to his wife and society, there is no problem, but if a former believers writes the same thing it is critical and anti.
I don't get it.

I think that there is a difference between objective history and "anti" material. I would classify "anti" material as anything that "downs" the Church intentionally. Vegas and PP's statements, I would classify as "anti". Both of them have admitted to being "anti-Mormons".
"The Godmakers" is an "anti" work. It was a work created specifically to discredit the Church.
For me, what would be classified as "anti" material has a lot to do with intent.
There is a difference between discussion of issues, and looking for answers, and simply writing or publishing work with the sole intent to discredit the Church.

That which lies, sensationalizes, or otherwise uses yellow journalism in their opposition or disagreement with the LDS Church. Most, if not all the people on this board who disagree with the LDS Church, in my experience so far, are antiMormon.
Really? We're liars and sensationalizers?
I'm kind of disappointed to hear you say that.

Oh jeez. Are you serious? Care to back that up?

Who on this board isn't an anti-Mormon?

According to BC's definition, I don't consider myself, nor most people on the board an anti-mormon.

Well, in the other thread, I just showed how you are an antiMormon....lol
However in your case, I think the malady is curable. Just stop reading between the lines that which isn't there.
