Hey everybody, Dr. Daniel C. Peterson has got a book coming out called
Muhammad: Prophet of God. The preliminary reports suggest it's very good. Although Daniel doesn't think so:

This is all quite flattering, but there must be some mistake. I'm reliably informed by experts on the so-called "Recovery" board and in similar venues that I'm a completely unknown incompetent who is regarded internationally as an academic laughingstock and who would never be able to get a job (let alone to keep one) at a real university.
Buck up little trooper. Tomorrow's a brand new day :)
Oh and charity predicted:

I guess her BBR is off. Better have some tacos.
Go ahead charity and mention The-Board-That-Must-Not-Be-Named. I won't be silent.
Congratulations Daniel!!!
I think we are all big enough to congratulate DCP on his book. I hope for him that it is successful and that it earns him acclaim.
In regards to DCP's dismissive comment on his critics at RfM and elsewhere, let me say that I've seen his CV (or what of it that is available), and I would be surprised if any credible research university would hire him given his complete lack of peer reviewed publications. This does not mean he is not capable, nor that he is not an expert in his subject., nor that this book is not a tour-de-force of scholarly erudition. It does mean, however, that has not been a success by the most important standard by which academics defines success: peer-reviewed publications. This book may give him currency, finally, in the academic market, but in most academic disciplines, books count less than peer-reviewed publications (there are exceptions).
DCP's publication record to date is, to be a fine point on it, abysmal, particularly for someone with his years in academics. By way of context, I published more peer-reviewed articles in my first year as an academic than he has in 30 some odd years.
So, congratulations are due, but DCP's "aw shucks" false modesty come across as not so veiled, and unsuccessful, attempt to cover up his dismal publication record.
God . . . "who mouths morals to other people and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, . . . and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites this poor, abused slave to worship him ..."
