bah, now I'm suspended too

Post by _Sethbag »

Well, I just got dinged for something I posted yesterday. It was "temple content", but it wasn't quoting anything, and didn't give away anything that we covenanted never to reveal.

Here's the link to the discussion.

http://www.mormonapologetics.org/index. ... 1208142486

In this discussion, people had been saying that the LDS church doesn't diss other churches like this video they're talking about does to the LDS church. I mentioned talk of the Great Apostasy, and then I mentioned that protestant ministers used to be portrayed as teaching what Satan wanted them to teach, and that Satan promised to raise up Popes and priesthoods and reign in nasty ways on the earth. That's not quite vebatim, but about as close as I can recall what I posted. Seriously. And yet they deleted this "sacred" Temple Content and I get zapped for a week. I think that's pretty lame. Especially since it was posted yesterday, and I'm betting more than one mod had already read it and hadn't had a problem with it. It was not very specific, and was overall pretty tame. But some particular mod was going through reading posts and got their knickers in a twist over it, and now I join Don Bradley and The Dude stuck in the principal's office.

Oh well. Whatever.

Just a week, eh? Well, that's not so bad. One of these days you just might be able to count yourself among the elect who've been consigned to "Purgatory"!

To what do you attribute your ability to way-outlast many here before you were suspended?

The only temple content which is safe to quote or allude to is that which is found in the scriptures or in the Ensign. And you'd better have a link to them when you use it and you'd better not mention that it has anything to do with the temple.

Whether or not we covenanted not to reveal a particular thing is irrelavent on MA&D. Their rules state that we will not discuss temple content. Best to steer clear from gray areas.

Well all I did was post over here. Nothing more. And I got banned not a week but forever. I can't even read/view at the ironically called "FAIR" board turned MAD. Even the Pharisee Paharon ((sp) on purpose) could not find anything wrong with my last 9 posts in Oct. "06 prior to being banned in to outer darkness on Nov. 5th.

It's a shame when the 'smoking gun' isn't allowed as evidence.

I'm pretty sure there was precedent on MAD for mentioning that the endowment used to depict a protestant minister being used by Satan to lead people astray. Mentioning Satan saying he would raise up Popes and Priesthoods was a bit more specific, but I didn't even quote the line Satan used, but rather just paraphrased it with fewer words, and mentioned that it was in there. To be honest, I think they're a bit too uptight about so-called "temple content". There are, in reality, only a few things that one actually covenants never to reveal outside of the temple, and they have to do specifically with the names, signs, and tokens of the priesthood, and for those of us old enough to have done it, the penalties associated with most but not all of the tokens. And mentioning that there are signs and tokens is not something covenanted not to reveal - merely the specific details of them. Brigham Young clearly mentioned the signs and tokens of the priesthood outside of the temple. In fact, Brother Brigham publically mentioned that one would be tested by angels on the way in to Heaven for one's knowledge of the signs and tokens of the priesthood.

Anyhow, I have to say I was bewildered about this suspension. I'd gone through and checked every thread I'd participated in today wondering what the heck it was. Then I did a search, limited to user Sethbag, and showed the search results as posts. Scrolling down showed this post from yesterday. Talk about your delayed reaction, eh?

Technically I think there was a precident on FAIR for that. However the new management intends to be tougher on critics and have stated as much.

That is interesting, but not relevant to my question (which, in case you aren't able to figure it out on your own, my question had to do with his being suspended at MA&D, rather than when he joined this board. In other words, I am asking about how he was able to keep from being suspended at MA&D until now, when so many here have long been banned from there?).

Thanks, -Wade Englund-
