We have been rebuked for our inequities

Get thee behind me ye unclean Shadeites! For it has been written in the Annals of MAD that ye are but unclean writers, and yea but I walk the shadow of the Valley of Shade, I shall be equipped with a decontamination unit. Good ol' Abulafia did come to the defense of our impure carcasses.

It is can be informative reading for those not too mired in the mud: http://www.mormonapologetics.org/index.php?showtopic=22624&st=100.

I did agree with this quote by Juliann, that I found quite insightful:
It is the pretense I don't understand...when we try to justify the unjustifiable it means that we are ashamed of what we are doing.

There is much applicable truth found in this statement. It is good enough for a signature line. She was conciliatory when she also said,
I have been accused of many things...if I'm "mean", I'll admit it. If I'm called "unChristian" I'll say so what. I openly admit I have a lot of fun with board wars and I'm glad this new admin allows it sometimes. I will own what I do and say. I have even admitted to Brent and Beastie (among others) that I have screwed up on something.

I finally gave in and went over to read the thread in question. Just on the last page I noticed this from calmoriah:

Who is hiding oneself? The people you are talking about engaging know exactly where this forum is and know the rules of common courtesy that are required to post here. That they choose not to abide by those rules is their choice.

Yes, I know where the forum is, and I know the rules of common courtesy required to post there. I followed those rules to the best of my ability. I did not "choose not to abide by those rules." I was ready to go back there and give them a second chance after being thoroughly disillusioned by the nastiness that popped up during their "experiment." But they will not let me go back. And it's not because I didn't follow their rules, as far as I can tell.

You better watch out Asbestosman and Alter - Juliann is WATCHING you - making sure you're living up to your secret MAD covenants.

Oh brother. I'm more concerned about what my wife thinks of this place. I'm starting to regret posting in the latest VegasRefugee thread.

This might be a justified statement if there were not an admitted bias against critics on MAD. It is impossible for critics to fully understand what the rules are, and many critics have been Q'd or Banned without explanation or seeming justification. Sometimes it appears the bannings were related to keeping the number of critics down. I think cal knows this and I am disappointed she made such a disingenuous comment.

MADdites pretend that this board is a full of vulgarity and porn. I don't know where the "porn" accusation comes from, frankly, but if a pornographic image were posted I'm sure Shades would move it to the telestial forum, where people know anything goes. (I'm not even sure he'd allow porn there, either, but just guessing). I've seen porn posted on the old FAIR board before the mods saw it and deleted it, too, by the way.

Vulgarity, at least in regards to the Celestial and this forum, is purely subjective. I find many of the self-righteous rants and the rude behavior towards critics and even doubters on MAD quite vulgar and offensive. I think Jesus had a harder time with the self-righteous pharisees of his day than he did with the outright sinners. I imagine a swear word would bother him less than seeing yet another MADdite jump on a person struggling with sincere doubts, or seeing people who supposedly "follow him" attack critics and implying "Satan" is behind their loss of faith.

If I recall correctly from my days as a believer, Jesus had different priorities, such as going after the ONE lost lamb and stopping people from casting stones.

I have not been banned from MAD, as far as I know. I just refuse to post on a board with such openly biased moderation that not only tolerates, but seems to, at times, encourage some very rude behavior in believers. What an stellar example to those who wander onto the site.

I lost faith prior to my internet days, but I can imagine having wandered onto a place like MAD when I first found out about the more troubling aspects of church history. I can imagine posting a question about Joseph Smith' polyandry and being told, over and over, by rude, dismissive believers that the only problem is that I was too stupid or lazy to find out this information long ago.

Frankly, some of the people who post over there are of the same mindset as those who didn't have a moral problem with attacking Martha Brotherton and calling her a whore from her mother's breast. So I guess this type of behavior has a long history in Mormonism. I just wasn't familiar with it when I converted to the church. My fault, of course. Despite the fact that I checked out and read the sole TWO books on Mormonism in my college library and the internet hadn't been invented yet, I should have somehow been able to find out this information.

I don't need any recovery from Mormonism. I need recovery from my several years dealing with Mormon apologists.

I was kind of surprised by calmoriah's statement. I've always liked her and thought she was a voice of compassion and reason in general. The broad accusation of incivility is odd. It's particularly ironic given that my calls for civility over there were generally ridiculed before I was banned.

Hey Moksha, what's the name of that thread?

Okay....I just looked at the last two pages. All I can say is that Juliann is one twisted sister. She admittedly searches on profanity...finds profanity...then reports back to MAD that she finds profanity on this board.

Uh huh.

Anyway, feel free to read her off base comments about the suicide thread. Can the woman read at all?

Well, it's a good thing (or not) that I don't have to cook dinner tonight! Here is how Juliann describes the suicide thread:

Juliann on MAD
"Ehhh....my one foray into the so-called Celestial forum after hearing about how elevated the discussion was....was where I found the phrase you didn't understand....Jesus and a bawdy discussion of sexual organs. The only place I am looking at now is the Terrestial place...and it is disgusting. The first thread...a nice little discussion of the "horrors of the temple" and how it results in suicide. The second thread,"

Ah, give me a flippin' break will ya, girl? Try reading the thread instead of the thread titles. The thread is NOT about how the "horrors of the temple" result in suicide!
