I guess this also fits in with Utah also being #1 in anti-depressant use

I'm really not sure what the reason is for this.

As for depression, probably the best thing my doctor did for me was assure me that my depression was a medical condition with physical causes, which removed a lot of the stigma for me. I've already talked about the time when I had reached the point of wanting to end my life. Thankfully that has passed.

It's a startling statistic, but I do think we should explore the concept that suicide is a legitimate life choice, and that those who take that choice willingly most frequently do so for reasons they understand better than we do. It's important that people find their own reconciliation with their inner self, especially if it grants them what they feel they need, and it's not harming anyone else. I do think that suicide is given a very bad press, when far more destructive behaviours are given societal approval.

Wow, Utah is now #1 in the nation?

When they were ranked 8th the apologetic was, "But Utah is last in its region."

So what are the new line of apologists gonna say?

I'm trying to wrap my mind around suicide being a legitimate life choice. Suicide is not an acceptable choice for a teenage as far as I'm concerned. Suicide for the terminally ill is a completely different issue, but teen suicide is totally unacceptable, at least that's my opinion.

I'm with you on this one. It's a pretty destructive behavior if you ask me.

I've always thought it was funny that Mormons get all excited when stats show low cancer rates or alcoholism rates in Utah, but when it's high suicide and antidepressant rates, we can't make any correlations. LOL

What seems to be the problem?

Suicide is not an acceptable choice for a teenage as far as I'm concerned.

They can drive, smoke, take drugs, have sex, go to juvey - we expect them to take responsibility for their lives, and we permit them to indulge in self-destructive behaviour. Why deny them total control?

Suicide for the terminally ill is a completely different issue, but teen suicide is totally unacceptable, at least that's my opinion.

On what basis?
