PBS Program Reveals Temple Outfits

Last night I was excited to watch an episode of the PBS program called, Religion & Ethics, since it featured a segment on Mormonism. The piece was quite interesting, and featured short interviews with Sandra Tanner and Dallin Oaks (whom the program kept referring to as "Dr. Oaks.") The segment was primarily about the ways in which LDS doctrine is different from other kinds of Christianity, and how this may or may not play out in the political arena, and in the realm of public opinion.
Then, the piece moved on to bits about the temple ceremony, and I was utterly and completely stunned as I watched the camera pan upwards.... revealing a photo of two fellows dressed in full temple gear! (One of the guys in the photo looked remarkably like Steve Young.) Honestly, I was quite shocked to see this. I wonder if this is the first time that this stuff has been publicly broadcast. Regardless, I would imagine that the producers of this show are in for a mountain of LDS hate mail.

Some people only read Playboy for the articles. I only watch PBS for the centerfold.

This is promising news!
Hopefully the same attitude will prevail during the Frontline on Mormonism.

Thanks for the link, I watched the video, very interesting.
Funny he states there was never any secrecy in christianity. Exactly how many were allowed into the temple in the wildernes? How many times did Christ tell the disciples "Tell these things to no man?"
Of coarce you get someone involed like Ms.Tanner and who knows what crop of garbage she'll spew. This blacks and the priesthood issue is such a dead horse. Does she get this way about the Gentiles of the New Testament being rejected by Christ? It wasn't their time then, and it wasn't the Negros time until the 1970's.
I wonder if the guys maing the videop knew they werent supposed to show the Garment. My guess is they filmed that little spot in the Tanner bookstore. Just a hunch.

I think you mean the Tabernacle in the wilderness, which was Jewish not Christian. Not only that, but the Law of Moses described in plain detail exactly what was in there and how it was used.
How many times did Christ tell the disciples "Tell these things to no man?"
Any time he wanted people not to spread word about his miracles. That isn't analogous to the Mormon religious secrecy. There is no secret knowledge in the gospel.

At that time Judaism and Christianity were one in the same.
Not only that, but the Law of Moses described in plain detail exactly what was in there and how it was used.
Before any Temple is opened people are permited to tour it and look at everything. That doesent mean all are privy to the teachings. Same as the Tabernacle in the Wilderness and any other temple.

I think the blacks and the priesthood accusation gets so much time because the black lobby/legal guns are such powerful forces in todays society. If people are intent on destroying the Church this is how you do it. In depth arguments about the Book of Abraham, or scientific evidence for Jews in mesoamerica are for Internet Mormons. This argument is explosive, emotionlal, politically powerful, and has great mass appeal.

Er, no they most certainly were not. Christ had not yet come.

No that is not the same as the Tabernacle in the wilderness. The teachings, contents, and rituals of the Tabernacle in the wilderness were a matter of open record in the Law of Moses, and the priests explicitly taught the people their significance. There were no secret robes either.

I think it's because it's such undeniable evidence that the church which claimed to be led by God's prophets was so far behind all the allegedly ignorant and 'apostate' churches on the issue of attitudes to the Negroes, that it took over 100 years to catch up.
This does not inspire confidence in the LDS church.
