"Silencing the Mormons"....

On the MAD boards Morningstar now has a perfect thread to play the victim. Her OP states:

Why is it when a person says hateful things about our religion and we voice our opinion, some people try to silence us instead of defend us against the horrible things that were said? So often we are guilt tripped, told our response isn't Christlike or any better than what the person said, and they seem threatened by us disgreeing with it. Do they contact people like Bill Keller and tell him he's not being Christlike?

We are humans with feelings, emotions, opinions, minds, and voices. When we are the target of hatred, we will speak up. Is it threatening when we disagree with one's actions or words? Is it wrong to disagree?

MorningStar

Now, for any of your who have read my most recent blog (the one that might have gotten me banned from MAD boards - or just being a logical thinker, or just trying to stand up for either side, or just trying to play fair, or just being honest about my apostate nature --- any one of those reasons you know since the MODS have refused to answer me just yet via email) - MorningStar and her creew either just don't get the point that I had made countless times via pm to her, on my blog (to her and Calmorouh) and on the boards OR she is purpously lying. I'll try to believe the former and that they are not lowering themselves to the standards they are so angry about their persucators being at. (Did that last part make sense?)

But here's the deal. And I explained it to both MorningStar and Calmorouh and it seemed to only tick them off further was that regardless of if they were convicted of something or not - the LDS church has instructed in various talks that LDS are to rise above, turn the other cheek, and still show love and kindness towards others. They even linked me to an article in a thread we were in that stated as much as well. Yet, here they are playing the "woe is me" card yet AGAIN because another poster and I both stated that they were going a little overboard.

Here's what I don't get over there. The same posters who got to Concerned Christians act very innocent - like Bob, the Cross, and others just bully them and they just nobly take and take and they are just so abused. And they NEVER treat anyone like that. Then they come over to MAD boards - NOT ONLY do they complain about it (I have NO ISSUE that they complain about it - they need somewhere the do this) but then they act the same exact way Bob, The Cross and company did to them to others if not worse! They get just as dirty in the mud. Hypocrites. I do not get it. Can someone explain it to me? Why is it okay for them to do it there but NOT okay for Bob and The Cross to do it to them at Concerned Christians?

Edited: To include - isn't it possible to discuss the percieved "wrongs" without slandering or creating a mob like mentality on a thread? To be respect and at the end of the day be able to sincerely go and pray for someone in accordance to God's will NOT your own? (Ie - God's will be done - not, "Please God, soften this person's heart so that they may respect Mormons better."

Some modern Mormons have a persecution wannabe complex, wherein everything that a critic says is either taken as a personal insult or is evidence of the critic persecuting the members. They so want to feel the same connection to the church that their ancestors did, but they can't find anyone who will actually persecute them like happened when their ancestors got tossed out of Missouri... so they invent persecution. They see persecution everywhere, even though most of the rest of the country couldn't care less what crazy religion they belong to.

As for your last edit: in the TBM Mormon mind, God's will = whatever "righteous desire" the Mormon wants. Nevermind that they overstep their stewardship, nevermind that their arrogance is showing. Whatever is wrong, is always with the "other" and never with "The Church". And one more thing: do not equate MAD with normal TBM in the church. MAD is a special catagory all its own, self-selected, and as far from the normal TBM/Chapel Mormon as can be found.

Its called "The Myth of Persecuted Innocence." From what I can tell its a dominant trope of Mormonism across history, social class and internet demographic.

Frankly, I think its an insult to those early Mormons who actually did suffer persecution (under a variety of contexts and for various reasons).

Hi Selah/Maggie; Dang it, I was afraid they were losing patience with you and you'd get the boot. I never agreed with much of what you wrote on MADB, but you did liven up the board and so I for one will be sorry to have you gone.

They pulled your Blog also and it was one of the more popular ones--I think you had 24 comments last time I looked.

Are you still able to read MADB?

I think part of the problem is that you have alot of "Cheerleaders" who just want to discuss with their own and bear testimony, and not enough "teachers" who are willing to honestly discuss a subject.

Its just people being people. In any group, you have those who injest the lessons, and those who just hear the lessons.

And those who want to cram the lesson down everyone's throats, whether they all want it or not.

Selah, I just wanted to say hello. I've not had much time to post here lately, but I'm trying to catch up on your story; it sounds interesting.

Congratulations on your decision to follow your conscience.

Hi Selah!

I don't think I've had a chance to welcome you to the board.

If they pulled your blog, that's really rotten. I hope you start one here, and have another one on blogspot.

I learned the hard way that the folks who are in charge of FAIR/MAD are extremely hypocritical.

Read my story on Shades' blog. It was one wild ride! LOL

I was actually a Mod on FAIR. I won't go into my story here since it's available in a succinct form on Shades' blog.

I think the reason that some of the Church members on MAD are afraid of your story is because you basically followed Moroni's Promise(Challenege?) and received a different answer.

Why they can't seem to come to terms with the fact that you are doing what is best for you and your family, I really don't understand.

I really am sorry about the way you were treated there.

I hope you decide to stay with us!

:)

Hi, Maggie/Selah.

I can tell you that you don't need to take any guff from either Calmoriah, or Morningstar, both of whom have their plates full with various screw-ups and embarrassments. Calmoriah, for example, is quite lucky that one of the TBM priesthood holders on FAIR/MAD didn't "report" her to her SP, after she went off for many pages on a thread, espousing various heretical ideas, such as the notion that women should be able to pass the sacrament. (You can read about this on my blog, the posting is called The Mopologietic Hall of Fame: Part 1; Calmoriah and "the small beginnings of apostasy.") As for Morningstar, she has a nasty penchant for dabbling in sophomoric profanity and dirty talk. I.e., she likes to talk about "poo poo" and "pee pees," among other things. There is a dossier of her as well, available for your viewing pleasure on my blog. (Dr. Shades noted that Morningstar appeared as a sockpuppet on an earlier incarnation of this MB, spouting all manner of foul things and profanity.)
