I realize that it may be counter-cultural here to say something positive about FAIR/MADB, but I thought it worth noting that a few former members of the Church recently deemed FAIR/MADB as instrumental in their transition from a disposition of "anger" to one of "respect" towards the Church, its members and defenders. Please see the thread on MADB titled: "Transitions From 'anger' To 'respect'".

It may also please some here to learn that they have been named there among those that MADB participants have been impressed with. Please see the thread titled: "Who Has Impressed You".

I don't use a person's faith-status as a gage of credibility. Instead, I look at things like how reasonable and well behaved they are towards other people--particularly those who are different from them. On that basis, I find those so-called "apostates" (your term, not mine) to be quite credible, and interactions with them to be of value.

by the way: I think you are misinterpreting the sentiments expressed in the "Transitions" thread. That FAIR/MAD may have had an impact on an exiter's change in attitude does not in any way, shape, or form reflect positively on either FAIR/MAD, or the TBM participants thereon.

Anyways, I have said nice things about FAIR/MAD in the past, e.g., that it is highly entertaining.

I think this was a great idea for a thread - for sure something that will hopefully mend some bridges and get members and former members talking amongst one another. A couple of quotes stood out for me:

Believe it or not, the FAIR boards have been the final mellowing catalyst for what I see as my "recovery". I can now empathize with the believer's point of view (I was one myself). There are certain aspects of Mormonism that still disturb me some; a certain arrogance of rightness. Provincial and limited thinking and respect towards other faith systems, and belief in a God that somehow favors certain persons based on birthright, or righteousness, or "good" actions.

It's so great that the MAD boards have created a mellowing enviroment for him - I don't think anyone here has ever stated that ALL the posters there are bad, because they are not. It's just sad that the most vocal ones seem to ruin it for the whole board. :( There are some really amazing posters there - LDS and non-LDS alike.

However notice that Tchild2 does also state where there IS still a problem, "a certain arrogance of rightness" - I can't speak for others - but I can speak for myself and even I have noticed this fruit in posters.

Rengade of Punk's comments were quite moving - I have to admitt - I was hoping for the same with myself on posting on MAD's boards. But I guess really, who needs a discussion board when you have God right? ;)

I agree with Severian and Rengade (just finished reading the thread) it has been a great thread. :)

This was kind and gracious of you to say, and I agree that there is room for improvement. It is good, though, that things are moving in the right direction, and that is what is important.
