More MAD Abuse: "Skylla" plays Mommy Dearest

Unbelievable. I have seen the fittingly named MADmods engage in low tactics before, but this about takes the cake. On a thread entitled, "Why The Gold Plates Aren't On Display" (caps ibid---this was a Charity thread, after all), the moderating team has stooped to an astonishing low. Somebody over there, either our own beloved "Runtu"---or else someone posing as him---has begun using a sockpuppet called "Huevo," which, as anyone who has spent time around Spanish-speaking people will know, means essentially the same thing as "Runtu"---i.e., it is a reference to testes.

Anyways, "Huevo" posted on MAD, and got this crap dealt to him for his trouble:

Huevo wrote:Not really, since I don't believe God had anything to do with it. But I'm always open for new information.

It appeared your post in the introduction folder was an apologetic farewell, but it seems you intend on staying. We have some conditions you will have to agree to if you wish to remain here:

1) Choose a name that is not derogatory.
2) This will be the last name you use here.
3) Leave the moderating to the mods.
4) You will apologize for using your sockpuppet ASURam to guilt others as displayed in the quoted post below:

Holy smokes! What a laundry list of demands! Surely no one is going to continue to claim that the MADmods aren't controlling. This is quite lame indeed. (On a side note: can we ever be assured when juliann and the other mods will cease using multiple names, and multiple layers of anonymity? On another note: Will *they* ever apologize for *anything*?) Anyways, the baloney goes on:

ASURam wrote:I know how you feel. I've felt so alone sometimes. Right now I wish I never had come here because I feel worse than when I came here. I thoght I would be welcome here after all the craziness I've had in my life but now people are just making fun of me and treating me like I'm stupid. I wish I would just go home too

If you develop actual severe depression including suicidal thoughts, you will share it with a qualified professional instead of message board participants who aren't capable of helping you.

5) You will review the board guidelines and follow them.

Skylla

I am appalled by the abject cruelty and derision of this post. Who is this unbelievably heartless, inhuman pile of crap known as "Skylla"? Where are Wade, rcrocket, Ray A, DCP & et. al. rushing in to decry this abuse of Mod anonymity? I think there can be no question about this: There is a special place in Hell reserved for the likes of Skylla.

Also, my guess as to "Skylla"'s identity:
A) Juliann
B) Calmoriah
C) Nighthawke

Even if it is none of the above, every single one of them deserves to suffer for helping to contribute to this atmosphere of cruelty.

It's Runtu...his first post (mentioned by Skylla in the post) says it's him....he himself mentioned the post here. And yeah that's pretty effing mean to drag up a terrible moment in someone's past like they're that same person. For shame MADboard!

Edit: I think the avatar alone gave Heuvo away though...and Runtu was upfront about who he was.

In all fairness, I read this differently. Huevo was clearly a sockpuppet for a person (Runtu) who had previously been banned. His post in the Introduction forum admitted as much. Normally you would expect them to just ban Huevo immediately and with no explanation. Instead, after a delay of several hours (perhaps they were discussing him in a mod-only forum or something?) Skylla shows up to announce that he can stay, but read him the Riot Act. What's more low, to just ban the sockpuppet immediately, or to let him stay if he agrees to "play nice" from their point of view?

And the bit about the name is reasonable. If Huevo is slang for testicle then it's clearly not a name in keeping with the MAD board rules, and ought to be changed.

To be honest, I was quite surprised they decided to let him stay, and so perhaps this colors my perception of Skylla's post laying down the law.

On the other hand, Skylla posted way, way too much in this post, and the volume of commentary in this post allows one to get a feel for the style and vocabulary of the writer, and in my mind it is crystal clear that Skylla is Juliann, although I can see why you'd argue Calmoriah or Nighthawke. Obviously I could be wrong.

So should we start a poll for what Huevo's new name should be on MAD....here are my top 5:

1) Johnny F***ing Cat
2) Not Quite F***ing Me
3) Dim F***ing Bulb
4) ASU F***ing Ram
5) The Name's Runtu, F*** You Skylla

I did catch this exchange over there:

QUOTE(Sethbag @ May 21 2007, 05:59 PM)
Doesn't "huevo" mean "egg" in Spanish? Is there more to that name than meets the eye?

There was once a book called A Crack in the Cosmic Egg. Anything with a crack in it should lend itself to an apologetic opportunity, rather than being something negative. Let's consider it a glass half full rather than a glass half empty.

So Runtu was ASURam?

Apparently, the sneaky devil. :-)

Yeah, ASURam was me in a fit of pettiness. Stupid and childish it was. Oh, well. I'm not perfect.

I'm not going to say anything about the mods or the folks over there other than to say that I'm clearly not welcome there. I wondered how long they would let me post unmolested, but I don't see any reason to post over there again.

I agree with Sethbag. This is actually an interesting phenomenon. Whether or not Juliann is now Skylla (The Mods have always had the ablity to sock puppet in and out of ID's), we all know that Juliann ultimately runs the show when it comes to Moderator affairs over there, and the decision of allowing Runtu to stay and post was, ultimately, her call.

The decision in allowing him to stay is probably the nearest thing close to an apology that Runtu can hope to receive for being banned in the first place over there. Frankly, I think that they realized they made a mistake in banning him. Runtu had never offended anyone in his posts. His only crime was really the crime of association. He was friends with us heathens who post on MDB. ;)

Your stock went down in my book when I found out that you used ASURam as a sockpuppet, but this has raised your stock back up. It takes some Huevos to admit when we've allowed ourselves to be less than what we hope to be.

Kudos.

I liked him. Gave him access to my music and everything. ;)
