I don't want this to get knocked down to the Telestial Kingdom so if we can keep this respectful and orderly that would be great. :)

But I've been seeing some references to some things that I've been wanting to ask questions about and haven't known how or if I've really wanted to know the answers. So here goes - finally.

Some of you have made references to the "suicide" pacts or what have you that were later changed after 1990 - the Library of Congress SHOULD have all these changes - but do they have a website that these changes could be viewed on? If not, is there a unbiased third party site I could view these changes on? I'm interested to see what was changed prior to 1990 but do not want to visit an "anti-Mormon" site - but rather an uninterested third party site. Any suggestions?

I've seen some references to polygamy in the temple. I know that men don't have to get a "temple divorce" in order to be sealed to another woman but a woman does - is this what some of you are refering to or is there something bigger? If so, can you provide some uninterested third party links? (IE not anti-Mormon stuff but not FARMS fluffed up "we <3 Mormons" stuff either). Just something that isn't the extreme one way or the other. I'd love to do some research on my own - but Google and I are not on speaking terms - so I need a bit of help here.

Anything else you'd like to bring to the table - with back up would be great.

Thanks so much. :)

You may not find what you want. There will be no pro-mormon website which gives the script to the temple ceremony because Mormons are never supposed to talk about it (outside of the temple). That's the whole sacred, not secret thing, remember? From a Mormon perspective there is no "neutral third-party" point of view---anything talking about the temple ceremony will seem "anti."

The only places you will find comparisons are in things written by former Mormons. Whether you find all former Mormons by default "anti-mormon," is another point.

I don't think all former Mormons are "anti". I guess I'm just trying to find a site that isn't an extreme one way or the other. That is reliable and can be depended on for information. That is crediable.

You could start here:

I think the first one covers all the permutations and evolution of the ceremony (I didn't read through it all), while the second focuses on the most recent changes:

Your wish is my command!

The following site was created by a never-Mormon, not an ex- or anti-Mormon. From my experience, all the information checks out perfectly. Enjoy!

The two important changes regarding violence would be the removal of the vow to avenge "the blood of the prophets" (removed in the 30's?) and the masonic vows of self-slaughter removed around 1990.

Shades's link is the best. Start there.

Reading through here - I see no reference to a preacher or minister. Where does this come from and why do so many talk about it?

I didn't catch the "blood of the prophets" where's that? Huh?

Nevermind - I found it. Wow. I have to say though - the apologist in me never did like Brigham Young. :P

The minister appears in "part two" of the websites scripts of the ceremony: its in the struck through part indicating changes.
