I've been rebuilt like those fembots from the Austin Powers movies....I don't know if it'll help moderate but I enjoy the upgrades.

I am curious as to what guidelines a moderator has to follow (if any) regarding responding to a thread as moderator? What is the balance between moderating vs posting for a moderator?

I bring this question up after following the John Gee thread on MADB. "Orpheus" and "Chaos" seem to have stepped way over the line and are not acting as a moderators, but as angry apologists trying to drive off critics.

Maybe Liz/Shades could elucidate the approach that MADB takes vs. MDB.

Simple. When in moderator mode, I've requested that everyone only use red text and preface any comment with "[MODERATOR NOTE:." This way, people will know exactly when we're only "speaking as a man" (or woman, in Liz's case).

So if you see a post by any of us in the usual black text, we're speaking as co-participants.

On this board, when acting as moderators, I've asked them to be 100% neutral. They can only jump into the arena of opinions when in "black text" mode.

However, the moderatorial style here is so simple that it's probably hard not to be neutral in moderator mode anyway, such are the restrictions I've placed upon them/us. They/we only have the power to edit swear words, delete extraneous quoted material, move threads, or split threads. (We also reserve the right to delete spam and pornography.) People's ideas and opinions don't ever get deleted, and threads don't get closed.

Another thing to add to Shades' thought is that we don't have any secret identities or whatever....I'm Bond, Liz is Liz, Shades is Satan....err I mean Shades is Shades. You know who's in the mod seat. No cloak and dagger Dunamis, Argos, Chaos crap....we can be held accountable.

Oh yeah....91.4% of this gig is deleting extra quote material, so I really don't even read the threads close anymore, just scan looking for language and big quotes.....and there won't be any "don't neener neener" crap. Neener neener away, or whatever else content wise, that stuff won't be moderated.
