This Just In!

Apparently, scientists discovered some chicken-like bones in Chile recently. They carbon dated the bones and determined that the chicken-like animals were there between 1304 to 1424 AD. These chicken-esque fowl were brought to Chile around that time by some islanders. It is unknown which island group brought them as the DNA of these beasts can be found in Samoa, Tonga, Niue, Easter Island and Hawaii.

Lee Universe brought this to everyone's attention on another forum I participate on as proof that the Book of Mormon is true.

Apparently, the well-known anti-mormon hate theory of chickens not being in South America prior to the Spanish has now been debunked and obviously the Book of Mormon is therefore true.

When questioned as to how an Islander chicken-like beast somehow proves that the Nephites (from the Middle East) actually existed, I was accused of hate-mongering and "plotting genocide". No comments yet that answered my question.

3 Nephi 10: 6

O ye house of Israel whom I have spared, how oft will I gather you as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, if ye will repent and return unto me with full purpose of heart.

Yes, I see the plagarism as well:

Mathew 23:37 wrote:O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

There is no archeological evidence for chickens in Jerusalem.

There is however evidence for them in New York

D&C 29: 2
2 Who will gather his people even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, even as many as will hearken to my voice and humble themselves before me, and call upon me in mighty prayer.

Let me fill it in for you:

New things are being discovered every day (like polynesian chicken DNA).
Tomorrow's discovery could validate the Book of Mormon.
Therefore the Book of Mormon is historical.

File under Fallacy of Future Evidence.

And don't forget the much beloved associate:

critics claim that all the discovery has been done
new discoveries are constantly made
critics are thus rebutted

Okay, but plotting genocide?

I'm conflicted. Should I go back to church because of this new evidence, or should I not go back to church because someone is plotting genocide?
