Headed Into Phoenix, AZ

Post by _Bryan Inks »

Well, wish me luck. I'm headed into Phoenix, Arizona for the weekend (stupid business trips).

If anyone's in the area and would like to meet me, PM me with a phone number and I'll call when I get into town, we might be able to chill for a while.

As a long-time Phoenix resident, I can warn you that you'll find it more than just hot here. The week of the Fourth of July it got up to 117 degrees. Now it's down in to the low 110s, a cold snap for us. The forecast is for 110 degrees Sat, 111 on Sunday and 114 on Monday.

We Phoenicians tell the joke about the guy from Phx who died and went to hell, but had to come back for extra blankets.

When you get here, remember the following:

(1) always carry a bottle of water with you and drink often or YOU WILL GET HEATSTROKE,
(2) DO NOT GO OUT INTO THE SUN WITHOUT A HAT.
(3) If you're going to be out in the sun (like at pool-side) for longer than 6-7 minutes, slather on sunscreen with a minimum PFS of 30 or above.
(4) the air outside of your airconditioned hotel will seem too hot to breath, but don't worry, it won't burn your lungs (I'm not making this up, many visitors ask about it)
(5) Because all the water in the water pipes are hot, you will not get cold drinking water out of any faucet no matter how long you run the water. Purchase refrigerated water bottles for drinking water.
(6) when you use toilettes, don't be alarmed at the heat from the water in the bowls. Your butt will sense the heat, but it won't burn you.
(7) DO NOT go for hikes alone anywhere this time of year. Phoenix is in the middle of the most dangerous desert in the world and it will kill you at this time of year.

I second what he said. Here in Vegas, which runs only a few degrees cooler than Phoenix on average, I always have a drink with me wherever I go. I feel awkward without one. The heat will get you.

Just in case you burst into flames carry a fire retardant ID so you can be more easily identified.

Though I live in the Valley of the Sun I still find myself more comfortable conversing/visiting via the boards.

Thanks for the invite, though.

Hi Here,

I am now in the General Area of Phoenix, here in Arizona. The temperature here now is about 100°F, with the Humidity now at about 20%.

I recently moved to AZ and we drove through Phoenix in the middle of summer. When I opened the car door at the rest area the blast of hot air that hit my face was the equivalent of opening the oven door. Fortunately we didn't settle in Phoenix, we moved further south where it's cooler. It seems weird, but I think it's the elevation.
