Journey of Faith: The New World

Post by _Daniel Peterson »

I'm happy to report that the sequel to the original Journey of Faith DVD, which followed the presumed route of Lehi and his party in the Old World and was filmed in Israel, Jordan, Oman, and the Yemen, received its premiere tonight. The new film, entitled Journey of Faith: The New World, was filmed in Guatemala and Mexico, and is visually gorgeous. It will be shown at 4:30 PM, Tuesday through Friday, in the JSB Auditorium on the BYU campus, as part of Education Week.

It may be ordered through the BYU Bookstore and Amalphi Arts, in Provo.

You may now proceed to sneer.

Is there a quick synopsis to this film that can be shared?

It contains less factual information than the upcoming September Dawn movie, and contains no evidence to support any of its claims.

In 10 years, it will be buried under the personal opinion category.

Very difficult to summarize. The first film covered the fairly brief narrative of Lehi's departure from Jerusalem, his travel down the Arabian Peninsula, and his construction of the boat at Bountiful. It involved lots of information about the incense trail, ancient settlement patterns, Arabian boat building, etc., and featured a number of talking-head scholars, both LDS and non-LDS. The same project actually also produced a non-LDS film entitled Golden Road, about the incense trail.

This one essentially treats selected major themes or issues from the rest of the Book of Mormon, in chronological order of their appearance in the narrative. Unlike the first, which used Professor S. Kent Brown as an overall unifying narrator, this one is entirely narrated by brief voiceovers from a large number of scholars and writers.

LOL! Presumed! that was funny Dan, err Bishop Peterson.

I look forward to the next releases where it shows how they did not die at sea from starvation, dehydration, or scurvy.

Then the release after that where they show these handful of couples humping like rabbits to produce enough people early on to have "great battles", oh oh, all the while building steel mills to fashion the steel swords! and building temples!

I've always said I'm open-minded. Is that hypocrisy?

What do you mean by "put my money where my mouth is"? I put my money where the evidence is. And I don't believe "all the evidence is in".

Call me a skeptic, but I think comparing the realism of two movies you've never seen is probably impossible, even for a genius of your caliber.
