Recently received a phone call from a long time friend residing in the state I grew up in. This individual was intelligent, confident, and graced with social skills. If Stakes or wards gave out awards of recognition to youth, perhaps some sort of valedictorian pronouncement could have been hers.
We shared some long conversations as youth. As time rolls quickly by, there were calls from time to time. As I separated myself more and more from the church, I felt less inclined to take a call from her, if it were to come again. I always enjoyed her conversation, catching up with the news of my home ward and such. My hesitation was simply that she was smart and direct enough to flesh out my church situation if it so inclined her.
The call eventually came. Church and all things tied to it is fair game for discussion since it was the factor that tied a whole bunch of us youth together. She dropped a hint, that only I might catch. I reciprocated with a similar comment. With that the doors to our walls flung open. Besides her husband, I was the only person who she had told her feelings about the church to. It was such an exhilarating experience. We continued conversing for another hour.
To find out that someone who you respect from the days of growing up, now shares your same views on things LDS , is electrifying. I hope others get a chance to have this type of conversation. My wife who is only luke warm, was happy to hear about the phone call.
Out of state friend from youth shares a kindred spirit.

The whole intrigue for myself is knowing that there are many people like her, who are still in attendance. They carry the LDS persona - but have no belief. This type of mindset is likely on a sharp increase.
Her husband is still active - thinks she will get past this at some point. Nobody else is aware.
