WTF? Braggart Ballard shares msg of HOPE to miners families?

Church Leader Shares Message of Hope as Community Honors Miners

Speaking of the recent “hard days and weeks” and “likely difficult days to come,” a senior leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints delivered a message of hope and encouragement tonight to families and friends gathered at a memorial service honoring those who lost their lives in the recent Crandall Canyon mine tragedy.
What hope? That the non Mormon miners who died will have a shot at necro membership in a year?

Then they crank up the pompous piety past 10:

Elder M. Russell Ballard, an apostle in the Church, expressed love and sympathy to the bereaved families on behalf of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostlesthe highest governing bodies of the Church.
Oh yeah baby! THE HIGHEST!!

Then lets make sure and brag about this on our pithy little news site..

I clicked the link in the article which mentioned a Catholic speaker there as well from the Diocese of Salt Lake City just to see if they were bragging as much as the Mormon about their silly speech of hope... NOPE NADA... Who'da thunk? The great whore of the earth not bragging?

Message to Elder Braggart Ballard. Shut up and leave these people alone.

I guess we shouldn't have expected so much. Ballard, after all, could have expressed concern on behalf of the second quorum of the seventies, the lowest governing body in the church, and temps at that.

I remember thinking stuff like this was lame even as a TBM, a missionary. i had never read the church news before and it seemed like every issue another GA was being given an honoary degree, a medal, or some other kind of recogition.

So trying to comfort the bereaved is a joke and an insult because the deceased are dead? Sicker and sicker puppy.

No Neh, you missed my point.

Mormons are all about getting attention. That is why they chauffeured numbnuts down there and then posted a lavish story on their pithy news site.

Again, your absolute cynicism amazes me.

eyebrows raise when the message about sharing the message of hope is louder than the actual message of hope.

There's this story about a guy named joshua who god mad all mad about this kind of thing.

If it's an LDS news site, wouldn't the target audience already know who Ballard and the apostles are?? Why the need to go into such detailed descriptions?

The article makes it sound like the families of the miners are SOOO lucky to have the condolences of the <gasp> Quorum of the 12 Apostles!! Oh, yeah, and some no name ministers of that other religion.

Its a joke and an insult. The Mormon "leaders" believe they are the primary authority of all. This incident underscores the asinine world view they believe in and that this worldview gives them authority to give the definitive "everything is going to be ok" message.

It wasn't that they tried to comfort the berieved. Its that they sent a press release stating their participation in the event to begin with as well that is so fake and tawdry.

I try not to be too cynical in these cases, but I've had personal experience tell me that the church really is that cynical itself in using such "charitable" occasions to bring attention to itself.

Back when I worked for the church, our intern (whom I knew from graduate school) came into my office in tears because of something she was asked to edit. It was an internal report on a proposed formal collaboration between the LDS church and Catholic Relief in Australia in providing charitable assistance and disaster recovery services. Nowhere in the report did it say that the agreement was intended to better serve people. On the contrary, the rationale behind the agreement was that the church had an image problem in Australia, and associating themselve with a respected "mainstream" organization like Catholic Relief would help to improve the church's image. Our intern said she was having difficulty editing this document because it seemed so contrary to what she had always been taught about service and charity.

And of course, when we went to Louisiana and East Texas to clean up after the hurricanes, the focus was always on making the church a visible and positive presence. It was never about service; it was a "missionary opportunity."

You know what I find interesting...if the miners had been found and saved, there would be story after story about how God answers prayers, and how can you say there is no God.

I remember when they found that scout...was it last year? It was exactly the same. Oh how all our prayers have been answered!! Thank God!! Miracles DO happen! Which I thought was incredibly insensitive towards the family of the other scout that they didn't find the year before. Although credit to the family that lost the scout. They were at the forefront of the search and rejoiced with the saints when they found the other scout.
