Kinda cynical, I know, but it does show how poorly such council as GBH's earring quota do in terms of taking into consideration the varied culture of people around the world. The notion that not only have the LDS got the "one true church", and "the Truth", but also the one true culture, is very myopic. It's totally unsurprising that a bunch of old, white men from Salt Lake City would have no idea whatsoever about how to integrate people from various cultures that might differ from the Mormon Corridor one some dramatically, without squashing them.

ps: I realize this isn't really "Sister Toomalafalla", and is a made-up example used as a joke, but just imagine if this woman did convert to Mormonism. She'd certainly be in violation of GBH's guidance, and we all know how seriously the guidance of "the Prophet" is taken by TBMs. Go against the Prophet's council at your own peril.

It is all about control, period. Will you do what Gordo Hinkster says 100% of the time? Even the lap-dog Bednar had to jump in with his story "She wouldn't take out that 3rd earring, so I dumped her!" And now you have Wendy Watson whispering into her geriatric husband's ears about no dirty talk.

Control.

Follow the prophet, follow the prophet, follow the prophet, don't go astray
Follow the prophet, follow the prophet, follow the prophet, don't go astray
Follow the prophet, follow the prophet, follow the prophet, don't go astray

You nail it about how the old guys in white suits haven't a clue how to integrate various cultures. I feel sorry for the African people who are being preached a very WHITE-washed and carefully controlled history of TSCC. The Africans have no clue just how racist an organization TSCC really is. That information has been cleaned up, polished, perfected. Those were little flecks of history, we move forward.

Look at Spencer Kimball and his Lamanite placement program. Try and breed the Lamanite out of the Lamanite. He commented that they were degrees whiter than those on the reservations.

No different I suppose from the Spanish trying to take the "heathen" out of the South American Natives (oops, Lamanites, sorry, or wait, what are we calling them now?). They tried to do exactly the same time.

Take off that weird skirt, those earrings, and that weird hat. Wash off that paint, take out those nose rings. Stop your heathen ways. Here is a nice white shirt and a tie. Now, let us sing "Praise To The Man".

I'm not sure what you're talking about with Wendy Watson and dirty talk, or Elder Bednar and dumping someone over earrings. What episodes are you talking about?

This is an example of the problem of conformity in LDS society and part of the reason I have concluded that there is a cultural deficit in Mormonism. Sister Toomallafalla's cultural dress and accouterments just don't jib with the white-bread blandness of Mormonism. She would be pressured, no doubt, to conform to Mormon norms of acceptable appearance.

To me, Sister Toomallafalla looks lovely just the way she is. She has kind, smiling eyes. I cannot understand why anyone would want to worship a God who finds fault with people's appearance, obsessing over what color men's shirts are or how many earrings people wear or how many tattoos they have. How petty!

Yikes! Shall I start a new thread for that?

"Is parten of" vs
"Is participated in"?

It sounds like only difference between the two is which one uses scriptural-sounding words.

Which part? Wendy's “A Synopsis of God Ordained Marital Intimacy versus Worldly Sex", or how it spilled over into Russell's speech - or even, Russell being a spiritual polygamist?

Wendy's Synopsis is what interests me most, but if you start the thread, you can of course do what you will.
